Hi all,
This morning we took Whopper to the vet to be spayed. We put her on the scale and she only weighed 31.7 pounds. I say only because exactly a month ago she weighed 27 pounds. In the past 3 weeks her size difference has been significant. She has grown in height and length but her weight hasn't changed much. 2 weeks ago we increased her food to the max amount indicated on the bag. She is fed Organix Puppy which was started by the breeder and is given treats throughout the day and every now and then some chicken, rice, or a banana. She does not beg or bother us when we are eating and so we don't think it's an issue of her still being hungry and not being fed enough. We'll ask the vet tonight but do you all think she just has more of the poodle genes and will just be tall and lean? Should we consider adding supplements or changing her food to encourage more weight gain? Will her weight just catch up with the size change in the upcoming month? We really thought she had gained more as she's so much bigger than she was. You can see the difference if interested by looking at the snow pictures on my profile which were taken the first week of march and the grooming pictures I posted in the doodle grooming group that were taken Wednesday. Any input would be much appreciated and I'm curious if others had their doodle grow in size but not much in weight at any point.
Berry is doing the same thing...First few weeks when we got her home, she put on weight like crazy. We thought we would have a 80lbs dog. But by the time she had her last set of shots (4months), she had slowed down. Stand over Whopper and feel her ribs. If you feel the ribs too much then she definitely needs to put on weight. If you have dig your fingers to feel it then she is overweight. I do it every week and I can feel Berry ribs when i touch her with very little pressure.
