Fozzy Bear ( 9 weeks old) has started growling at my 8 & 10 year old boys. He has also been nipping at them. This started about two days ago and I want to put an end to it as quickly as possible. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Hi Chris,
What do you think helped the most? We are dealing with the same issues with our 9 week old puppy. He seems to get more aggressive with the nipping and growling by the day. It definitely seems like more than puppy play. We also have younger boys who are a little afraid to engage. It's the last thing I expected!
Ok, my boys are 8 & 10. The nipping is of course still an issue. They have to stand still and avoid eye-contact with him. But this will be tough because for a few seconds he will continue to bite their ankles. Make sure they keep their arms up too, so he can't nip fingers. The growling is gone - we had the boys hand feed Fozzy part of each of his meals he eats at home. I also have the boys train him with commands for a couple minutes every day. Just sit, lay down and shake. We keep it simple so the boys can treat him and show him good things come from pleasing the boys.
