Henry went to the Vet yesterday.  Got wormed and a shot.  He had a yeast infection in his ear so we have to give him medicine for that for 10 days.  I feel so bad because his ear was all gunky, but it was deep in the ear.  I do this cleaner first once a day and then the med drops twice a day.  All this gunk is coming up and out now and it's so nasty.  Poor lil Henry.

He seemed a little blah last night and this morning, could that be from the worming medicine and shot? The vet thinks he'll be like 60 to 70 pounds, but he said he needs one more weight to gauge his growth rate.  Breeder had said 30 to 40, so I am curious to see how it ends up.  I am thinking like 50 to 55.  He was 11.5 pounds yesterday at the vet and was 9 weeks and 5 days.

Also, we are giving him one more week on Orijen.  We officially finished the transition and his stools have gotten more loose and are all soft and mushy now.  They were not like that at all before the Orijen so maybe it's not working with his belly.  I might try a high quality food that is not grain free?  I don't know, it's so confusing but he was on something called Sport Mix and that wasn't grain free and he was having great stools.  So, the vet said give him another week and see what happens and if it don't go away then try something different.  I was thinking maybe that Wellness, Blue Buffallo or Natural Balance I think it is.

Yes, Henry would be a little lethargic after his shot and worming. No worries there. Have you tried adding pumpkin (not the pie mix, just pumpkin) to the dog food? It helps firm the stool up.

Thanks, I hopeHenry starts feeling better today then!

I did buy some pumpkin, but at the same time I want to see if it is the food so I can get him on one that will better suit his belly needs.  Does that make sense?  Almost like the pumpkin would be a temporary fix, just delaying me getting him to what he needs?  Would that even be accurate or could the pumpking get him firmed up and maybe he'll stay that way then?

Orijen didn't work for our puppy (stools were too mushy) so we switched to Taste of the Wild, which is also grain free, and it fixed up the stools immediately.  So if you are interested in grain-free food, don't give up on the idea.
I will have to look into that?  Do you get it at a Specialty Pet Food Store, Petsmart type store or online?  Thanks for the help.
It's easier to get than Orijen in my opinion (so wherever you got the Orijen will also likely have TOTW).  It's available online and at specialty food stores.  Their webpage has a search function where you insert your zip code and they will tell you where you can buy in nearby.
Thanks, we ended up just getting some Blue Buffallo and are gonna try that.  So, I guess we'll see how it goes.  We have a good bit of Orijen left so we are going to transition very slow and see how it goes.  Hopefully his gas is better too.  HA  Stinky lil farts going on right now.
One trick we have of controlling yeast infections is to rub Tinactin (athlete's foot cream) in the ear after a bath or when the ear gets wet. This has helped prevent yeast infections in our dog.
Thank you so much, I'll have to keep some of that on hand.
Thanks--I think I'll try that on Angel!

Lucy had a yeast infection in her too. I got an ear wash from the vet that I use once per week to keep the ears nice & clean and dry. If she has a bath or goes swimming, I use that after too. Its helped a ton!

As for the orijen dog food, we love it. We used to put one "plop" of pumpkin in her food AM & PM. (organic) Its just good for them too. Then she started eating her food slower, so we stopped. Pumpkin sitting out ,,, yuck. Her stool is fine now & she is a very healthy pup :)

I am sure all pups react differently, but you mentioned "Wellness" and my dog had terrible

stomach pain and gas with that brand. We had to take him off of it..

The yeast infection in ears, our vet said is very common in the long eared dogs and both

labs and golden retrievers are prone to it..so he recommended ear cleaner you squirt into ear once

or twice weekly to help prevent it. And to use it after baths.

Thanks, I am gonna do that and clean them out weekly here on out to try and prevent it from recurring.
