I had to teach Lucy tonight

That she was part LAB and LOVES water!?!?! 

WHHHHHAT? I thought this would be a natural thing? 

Its hot here in TX. I went out and bought Lucy a hard plastic pool. 

I was pumped bc I thought she would go WILD! Ummm no, she was scared! 

I had to roll my pants up and get IN with her and encourage her for over 10 min! 

FINALLY she got in. It took her awhile but she finally started to enjoy it. 

I know she gets scared easily but come on now ...

My little one hates pools, Whenever we stay at someone's house that has a pool I make him go in and show him how to get out of the water, where the stair are etc, but he hates it and is scared to death.

 

I too, had a baby pool for him since he was little and he wouldn't go near it. It didn't help that my friends kids put him in it when I wasn't looking. He is now two years old and he will ever so gently place his paws in water that he can stand in, and at the ocean he will jump over the waves as they break at the shore, other then that, he is not a water dog either.

 

Being that my mom is moving to a community that has a lot of lagoons and alligators, I am glad he is not that thrilled with  the water, God forbid he ever got loose.

Becca - we have the same problem.  We live in FL (hot) and have a beautiful pool, I thought because our Labs had always loved to swim that Rooney would too - NOT!  He will not get in no matter what and I have tried everything.  We have a very large wading area and it would be perfect for him to just run around in - nope.  Not only that but he doesn't like to walk in wet grass or take a bath - lol - what kind of doodle did we get?  Ha.  Maybe Lucy will get better now that she has gone in - Rooney I'm afraid is a non-swimmer.

Kirby didn't like the kiddie pool either.  Wouldn't get in it.  However, she loves to play in the sprinklers, or if I am watering she is right there trying her best to get soaked.  Haven't tried to get her in a 'real' pool yet.

[Suzann, Rosey & Bandit]

Rosey loves her kiddie pool!!  But Bandit not so much.  He lies in the shade under the chairs rather than get in the  cool water.  Bandit does not like to be wet.  I remember I had to teach Rosey too what it was all about!!  Yay LUCY!
