Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My dog and I suffer from SEVERE separation anxiety! At the end of May, I am going away for 7 whole days on a trip. He has always gone everywhere with my family but can't come on this trip. He will be at home, but my husband works, and I am always home, we do things everyday. This will be devastating to him (and me), unless I can get som kind of care we are comfortable with. He is a two year black F2 Labradoodle. He gets along well with dogs, we are at the dog park at least 5 times a week. He has allergies and is totally attached to me, so that when someone else is walking him, he comes to my side. Ridiculous, but he was a rescue and had been abused, he has some fears but has come along way. He does not like men in hats, and doesn't like dog confrontations(fights).
Any suggestions for dog care during the weekdays, I would be willing to trade time if desired or pay. I live in Lakewood. My pups name is Cooper and he weighs 55 lbs. see picture
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks so much, Sue

I might hire a dog sitter who can spend a large part of the day with him in and out of your own home, take him on long hikes, and exercise him well. That way he is in his familiar environment, and he will be tired/not bored (tired= better behaved!) when your hub gets home. Also, I'd make your goodbye short and sweet. Try to not let him pick up on your anxiety about leaving him. I only know references in a Essex County but happy to share those, lmk. Best,
Thank you for responding! I really appreciate, and the advice is taken as well. Please send me information.
Thanks, Sue
Thanks, that is what I am going to do!
Lakewood? NJ? Ca.? Maybe post this in your State's area group...and you may get some takers on trading vacation boarding. Good luck!

It is California. I had to look that up myself on her page.  In Ohio, we have a Lakewood and I was going to volunteer.  I suspect there are many many Lakewoods.

Yes, I agree, do post in your state's/ area group OR post to the front page-even better

You are correct, I should not assume everyone knows that, thank you though?
Sue

Aw leaving your fur baby is the worst. It's so hard to trust anyone to help.  This woman in your area seems nice:

Test her out with Cooper on a couple walks and see how he does with her before your trip.

Thank you so much! I have several leads that I will follow through with. Appreciate your help! This will be a good experience for both of us.
