Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere, but none of my searches came up with anything substantial.

We are bringing home our new male pup (name, still to be determined) tomorrow - an F1 Goldendoodle.  Our existing dog, Callie, is a 3 year old female Papillon, who has been Queen of the house since we've gotten her (i.e., "spoiled").  What would be your suggestions on how to introduce the new guy to her and our home?  Any ways to reduce the stress to Callie?   She's been to doggie daycares and has some limited dealings with other dogs, but we moved to a very remote rural area over a year ago, so her doggie interactions have been less frequent since then.

Thanks, All.  I've been learning lots by reading and looking forward to learning more about our new family member and the adventures we'll be having.

Hi Jill,

Congrats on the newest member of your family. You'll have to post pics of your new little guy after you all settle in.

We have a 3yr old Shih-poo as well as our 8mo old GD. When we brought Finn our GD home, we let our Shih-poo (Murphy) outside to meet him. I had read it is better to introduce the dogs outside vs. inside the house. Murphy was more excited that we were home than he was to meet the new puppy. He sniffed him and kind of moved on. It really was never an issue for us. Murphy was used to our golden retriever that we had previously though so I'm sure that helped him adjust.

I would advise giving Callie lots of extra attention so she doesn't feel left out.

I hope it goes well. Keep us posted.

Jennifer,

Thanks for the advice for the first meeting.  We'll definitely do that.

A number of years ago I had a 3 year old female Sheltie and we brought a male puppy home as a companion.  For the life of me, I can't remember how we handled the introductions.  It worked out fine because they were best of friends until she passed at 14.

Thanks again - I'll keep you posted and post pics as soon as we're home.

Hi, Chelsie,

Yes, we are getting our boy from Dazzle Doodles.   Actually, we still don't know which of the 5 boys is "ours" so I just copied one picture off the site until we have picked him up and I'll replace the photo with one we take.  Are you getting one from this litter?   Or just this was your breeder for your current doodle?

Are you happy with how things are working out with your Sam and how was working with VaLois?  So far she's been great with us, although we found her kind of late in our search for a doodle and have only corresponded with her over the phone and via email.  We had been working with a different breeder north of Spokane but that ended up not working out and we found Dazzle Doodles.

Thanks for the advice on introductions.  We really want them to be good friends - our Callie seems lonely at times.  We'll let you know how it goes.

Too cool to already be meeting someone whose doodle is from the same breeder!  Our pup's mom is Dixie and dad is Rusty.

The breeder in Spokane wasn't abracadoodles (and actually I've not heard that name before so I'll need to go check them out as well).   We were talking with Huckleberry Kennels and the litter timings just weren't going to work for us.  The breeder there was also good to talk with and everything (I don't want to make it sound like we had a bad experience with them or anything).

I hope the tummy issue resolves itself soon.  Those are NO FUN!

I looked at your profile and saw you are closer to Seattle?  We're going to be spending a weekend over that way Nov. 10-11 for a Seahawks game.  This is an annual event with my older brother from Couer D'Alene and his wife.  We lived in Alaska for many years and would fly down to meet up with them for one game a year.  Now that we've moved here, they just drive over and we all go together for our annual game.
