Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi Everyone!

My husband and I are bringing home our goldendoodle in a little over one week! We've read Cesar Millan's "How to Raise the Perfect Dog" and Jan Fennell's "The Dog Whisperer" to prepare for Ollie - we've found that we love the philosophy of the Pack and plan to implement a lot of what we've read, but it's overwhelming. Just wondering if anyone has real life examples or advice on how to implement these. Or even just things that have worked/not worked in the first few months of puppyhood in general. Thanks!

Hi Kadi, I loved Jan Fennell too, and also felt it was all overwhelming at first. But in general I think, if you reward the good and ignore the behaviours you don't want, you will be ahead of the curve. And don't forget that negative attention can be seen as rewarding to a puppy! Also, exercising them and puppy play dates (socialisation) are KEY - a tired pup is a good pup! If you'd like to see really well done, positive based "pack leader" philosophy in action, check out Doggy Dan online at theonlinedogtrainer.com.
BTW, love the name Ollie ;)
Good luck and post pics!!
She is so, so cute! She looks like she will get big to me! I don't know much about coats, but there are discussions here, if you search, that include size charts (how many pounds at what age) based on what type of doodle (F1B, ALD, etc.). And remember, if you don't want a behaviour allowed when she is big, don't allow it while she is small! Enjoy :)
