Jumping problems

Hi everyone! So Jace has done amazing with all of his training and has all the commands down pat at this point, Sit, down, stay, leave it, come, etc. But we've just started having some issues with him jumping on people, especially children! (he LOVES kids) and as he's getting so big he almost knocks most of them over!! Me and DH are always working with him on not jumping but it doesnt seem to stick with anyone but us! Does anyone have any suggestions on how to knock this habit?? Part of me wants to think it's just a puppy thing, but I know jumping on people is something that most of the time will carry over into adulthood if not handled!

Hi Emily...Traz is 8 months old today and still jumps on people too.  A couple things that our trainer said to do is "anticipate" that he is going to jump.  For example, if you know that he is going to jump on anyone that comes to the door, put him on his leash so he isn't able to jump up.  Or, in the kid's instance, the leash will prevent him from jumping on them.  She also said that if we can get him into a "sit" and praise him while he is sitting, he will eventually get it that jumping is not ok.  Traz will jump on my husband and I if either one are away from him for very long, because he is excited to see us.  Knowing this, we get him to sit and then say our "hellos".  It's not perfect, but getting better.  The trainer also said to "ignore" the jumping and not react to the jumping (supposedly he'll stop if no reaction) - which is good if it's on you, but other people is a different story.  A stern "No" and "Off" (meaning to get off the person or object) is good too...providing he knows what "off" means.  You don't want to use the command "down" because that means for him to lay down on the ground.  Good luck with your training.  It sounds like Jace is doing well.

This has been one of the toughest behaviors to correct, and our pup is almost 2. She is much better but still lapses when very excited. We have done what Karen said and it has been successful for the most part. We also will put a flat palm out in front of our pup's face as a signal not to jump, along with the "off" command. This helps too. She will usually sit when she sees this.
