I learned this a long time ago...it works! But, I'm usually ground level trying to keep her calm, so I kneel on the leash.

We tried this. We tried getting people to turn around like a tree and ignore her. Bottom line, if she was excited, we just couldn't control the jumping. Plus, Josie is small (12 pounds, so when she jumped on someone untrained to turn around, they would just pet her...obviously not helpful).

Then about 6 weeks ago, our trainer turned us on to the Citronella collar. She said if the other methods haven't worked by now, they probably won't (Josie is 9 months). Best thing I've ever purchased. This thing just sprays a little Citronella from a remote, so she doesn't even know it's me that's doing it. It only took about two incidents for her to get the message (they just hate the smell - I don't like it either, but I can hardly smell it). Now her paws do not leave the floor when someone approaches her. Her tail looks like it will wag off, but no jumping.

Now I'm using it for barking and whining. I've only sprayed it once, so I think she'll need a couple more instances to make the connection. You have to be careful to use it on only one behavior at a time, or they get confused.

I plan on giving it a try! Thanks for sharing!
Huh! I shall be doing this with our poodle, she's awful with the jumping! Also, I may look into the citronella collar for Luther's cat obsession ...
