Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi everyone I know it's been forever since I've been on doodle kisses but honestly my doodle Bears have been great and I havent really needed any advice, until now. Maggie has had diarrhea for the past 2 days and it's concerning me because she's not really ever been sick since we've got her, and she's not really a "puppy" anymore so I know diarrhea Is rare! We feed them earthborn hollistic and we typically stick to the fish formula but we had to get the primitive naturals formula a couple of days ago because they were sold out of the other flavor! It didn't concern me too much because I thought that it was fine to change flavors within the same brand, it could be because of that though because it started the next day after the flavor change, Jace is feeling fine. She's acting fine, a little under the weather today, and I don't think she's dehydrated, I've been checking her gums though, I started her on the bland diet at lunch today and have been giving pumpkin which doesn't seem to have helped any.. We're taking her to the vet this evening but I guess I'm just looking for some insight into what's going on with her, I always get worried when my furbabies are feeling bad.

Aww sorry to hear it. How old is she? What is the bland diet you are feeding? Boiled chicken and rice? It is great that you are seeing the vet tonight and will test a sample...
I will share what I learned here: Do you have any sweet potato? Good for diarrhea plus more nutrition than pumpkin!
Hope that it passes quickly for you all and isn't anything serious. Best,
Yeah I'm doing rice and chicken and I do have sweet potatoes, I'll add those to dinner! :) I'll update after the vet tonight!

Omit the rice and add the sweet potato.  Hope she is feeling better soon.  Please keep us informed.  If you are a member of the Food Group I am sure you know to kindly refuse any RX food the vet offers to sell you. :)

I am curious to see what your vet has to say.  We also use Earthborn and they were out of the flavor he had been eating so we bought their bison flavor.  He's acting fine but also had a little mucousy soft stool even though I did mix the flavors the first few days.  But Bentley does have a sensitive stomach and we have been through this a lot so....I hope Maggie feels better!

What a coincidence, I was up a few times through the night with Shiloh who has diarrhea. I started yesterday. Yarrow is fine. They're on different foods because Yarrow has sensitivities. Yesterday Yarrow walked away from her bowl leaving about half a cup of food. Shiloh finished it off. But she's never had a problem with a few bites of Yarrow's food before. Shiloh will even finish off the cat's food if I'm distracted. Anyway, I'll be benefiting from the advice here as well.

Wonder if she has parasites.  We treated one dog for tapeworm because we saw them but not the other two.  Kate and Foxy seemed thin and sometimes didn't want to eat.  Treated them for the tapeworm and now gaining weight again.  They can display worms, eggs (microscopically), runny stools, tarry stools, throwing up, thin, bloated, losing weight.  Since we live in a wooded area we are going to put them on a heart worm medicine which kills parasites except whip worms (they've had those too).  We've also had a shih tzu ate a bone and had to have it surgically removed (we didn't give it to him).  Anyway, hope your baby gets well soon.

Fecal came back normal but she got a antibiotic shot to be on the safe side, he gave us some liquid stuff to give her to firm up her stools and said to continue a bland diet and slowly integrate her back to her old formula, he thinks it's a food issue or she's ate something that dIdnt agree with her. No obstruction either so we will just wait this out and hope she gets better in a couple of days! Thanks everyone:)

Your pup sounds on the road to recovery. Love the name. We had a boxer Maggie. Recurring name used in my family (my mom's name was Marguerite Johanna Frieda Selma Lange Johnson). Even my granddaughter named her doll Margaret. Anyway, dogs respond so quickly. Glad she is better.
