My doggy day care just sent me an email saying they are requiring a monthly flea and lice treatment. I am not psyched.

First off, we don't have fleas in Alaska. Due to our weather, they cannot complete an entire lifecycle. We also don't have ticks.

We do however, have lice.

They are requiring the flea and lice treatment monthly from here on out. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but it just doesn't seem good for the dog to be getting these treatments all the time.

I think the treatment is revolution (or similar) monthly.

Any thoughts?

I use monthly flea, tick, lice treatment on all my dogs.  I've done this for every dog we have owned and never had a problem with them.  I currently have a 4 month old, 4 yr old and 6 yr old that receive Frontline plus.  The directions don't tell you this, but your dog should not receive a bath 4 days before and 4 days after because the oils on the hair and skin help the medication.  We live in Kentucky.

Thanks Linda. Maybe I'll ask the vet for Frontline Plus next month.

Chester is on Revolution monthly. There is a big Tick problem here - and I haven't found any on him. Although a lot of my neighbors have them on their dogs. The Groomer found dead fleas on him so  It also treats heart worm.

I don't love applying it every month but it seems to be working.

I can't believe a flea can't complete it's life cycle in Alaska- wow.
