Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
So happy to have found this group! I'm Darcy, mom to four amazing kiddos. We lost our one and only family dog of 17 years 2 1/2 weeks ago. My husband stated right away that we need another dog. I, on the other hand, was quite hesitant. I know how much work they are, and I'm already busier than busy with my four kiddos..Eeks.. However, I quickly changed my mind. We obsessed and researched high and low before finding our goldendoodle whom we are picking up on Friday. I can't wait! I have always loved them, but my husband was not quite convinced. Anyway, we got lucky as she was picked out and sold weeks ago, but the original owner backed out. Which gave us a chance to get her. She will be ready to go on Friday.
We are surprising our kids with her by setting up a geocache. They are completely clueless we're getting her. I can't wait to see how they react when they find her. Of course, we'll make sure they know the puppy was from us though, and we simply "tricked" them. The weather is supposed to be great on Friday, and I so look forward to getting our puppy, and surprising the kids.
Thanks for letting me ramble, I look forward to spending more time here!

Thank you all! She's an F1.... so she'll be the "hardest" to groom, right??? I just love their big coats though!
I'm currently nursing my 1 year old daughter as well... all through the night! I think I'm doomed as far as sleep goes! Luckily, I do quite well on little sleep, and am usually up by the day by 3 or 4 though. I still am certain I'll be pulling my hair out in the beginning. DH might have to step up to the plate. At least on weekends anyway!
Welcome Darcy!
We just brought home our baby Whidbey the end of February and she is growing so fast! I am so excited for you, and of course it is great to relive the early days like we did not too long ago!
Make sure you get plenty of rest before she comes!! You are in for some minimal-sleep nights- but soon your sweet girl will sleep through the night. We now can get Whidbey to sleep easily 7 hours- and then she goes back to sleep after she goes potty.
So many exciting days ahead for you, and I look forward to learning more about her when you bring her home!!
Congratulations! So happy you found your puppy and DK. We'll be looking forward to lots of photos.
The only problem you will face is that your Doodle will take over your family's world. You will all soon become Doodle Zombies! Nothing will ever be as cute, friendlier, funnier, sweeter, and smarter than your Doodle. You will look at other dogs and think to yourself "too bad they aren't as beautiful as my Doodle".
LOL, love it!!! You know I started having cold feet a few days ago when I came across a discussion on how "terrible" doodles were...ugh... However, I did not let it bother me. I'm sure that there are "haters" out there no matter where you look for anything and everything! So glad I found you all to enforce our decision. I so can't wait until she's here!
You guys have been awesome. Thank you for the warm welcome!
Congrats!!! That is such a nice story!!! Your other family member had a nice long life!! I felt the same way and my husband was crushed when we lost our 18 year old dog over Christmas. Having a new puppy does help the grieving process and my Husband is so much happier now. This is our first doodle even though we've had many other dogs through out our lives, this is by far our smartest pup. So very happy for you and your family! Enjoy!
Exactly. I told my husband I kind of felt guilty not telling the kids about our upcoming surprise because they don't have anything to look forward to. DH and I have hope and know that greatness is around the corner! However, I also don't want the kids to have high expecations on a new puppy too. I am sure she's going to be pretty timid and not do much the first couple days???? And we've held off this long now from telling them, we can't turn back now!
And yes, Mickey is greatly missed. She came to me 17 years ago as a stray. She was a lab mix. Just a wonderful, wonderful pet that didn't ask much from anyone. :( Getting a puppy is going to be COMPLETE opposite of what we had. I'm sure we'll do just fine though.
Congrats! Such an exciting story! We will be 1 week behind you with picking up our doodle.
Good luck and post lots of pictures!
Congratulations on your new puppy and welcome to DK! That is a great idea to surprise your children with their new furbaby! Hope you get lots of pictures of their reactions and post them here! It would be fun to see the expressions on their faces.
