Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
My Australian Labradoodle puppy is just over 3 mos and you cannot walk through my house without her jumping at you, barking, growling and trying to bite...ugh super frustrating. Any recommendations on how to get this to stop..it's aggravating to me but also to my kids ages 12 and 7...she seems like she's angry but her tail is wagging and if you shout stop/no it seems to get her more excited!!! I try to just stop and stand but that's unrealistic at times to do every single time...help????

Not sure if someone has mentioned this or not, but if you have puppy socials in your area, it's a great way to have your pup play with other pups. They actually learn a lot about how to play and not play too hard. I also highly recommend bully sticks; they love to chew and it really releases a lot of anxiety, I believe. Lastly, if your pup is trying to bite at you have a toy handy for the pup to bite instead. YELP if the dog does bite you to let him know he's hurting you and it's not fun.
When my Charlie was at that age, she had such sharp teeth, and mouthed us!! It was so painful!
Our dog trainer at that time gave us this exercise to do, and it worked almost immediately, made her quit mouthing us all together. This seems silly, but really worked. I also did this with my 5 months old poodle, and he stopped as well.
1) everyone in the household carry/ pin a cheap whistle ( gym teacher type )
2) the moment the puppy mouth you, blow the whistle quickly, say nothing, and leash the puppy up to the door knob or other places. The length of the leash should be long enough for the puppy to sit, but too short to lay down.
3) Once the puppy calm down, unleash him/her, say nothing.
This is just for the mouthing, but, try it. It really works.
This is a great method. So simple and easy and I bet that whistle works like a charm. Similar to my pop can method but leashing them to the door for a silent time out is a great addition. I'm going to add that into what I do too!
