Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi, my little girl Hunter is 9 weeks old, she has been with us for a week. When I first brought her home I took her to the vet for a check up and the vet said that she was underweight. She said that typically Goldendoodles are not food motivated and suggested that I soak her food in warm water. She is on Holistic Eagle Pack Puppy, which is what the breeder had her on and I continued. I have been soaking her food and she still does not have much of an appetite, she eats but it seems to be more of a "chore" to her. She seems to like her food, I am assuming anyways since she does eat it..... I just don't know. The vet said that you can feel her ribs to much and down her spine. She still "feels" the same to me in those areas. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would REALLY appreciate it!! Thank you! Denise & Hunter

I cook once a week for both of my dogs. It depends on what I have or can buy cheap, but here's an example. I bought whole fryers for 79 cents a pound a few weeks ago, I threw one in a large pot and cooked it overnight until it fell off the bones. I pick the bones out and then add some rice, oatmeal and diced veggies, cook it some more and then divide it into containers so that I can keep enough in the fridge for 4 days, the rest I freeze. I mix 2 or 3 tablespoons of it with a little hot water into the dogs kibble (chicken soup for a dog lovers soul) They both love it & it's way cheaper than adding canned food.
Denise have you tried Taste of the Wild yet? I am planning to put my puppy on this when she comes home, but in the meantime I am feeding it to my chihuahua who is the pickiest eater on the planet!! He won't eat unless I am home, picks out food he likes, you get the picture. Anyway, my breeder recommended the switch because this is grain free and has wholesome ingredients (no by-products or fillers). I am using the bison and venison one - it is all life stages so you can feed puppies and adults. My chihuahua picked out all of his old food as soon as I brought this home. He used to never eat and would get upset tummies - no more! Give that a try if you are still having problems.
