Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

This is just a FYI and reminder. On a Doodle FB page this morning, a Family lost their young Doodle because he loved chewing on sticks. The stick fragments pierced/ ripped his intestine in 3 different places and the pup had to be put down. So very sad, and his young age, just makes it all the worse. Rocks and sticks can and do cause harm....in this case, death.

Thank you

That's too terrible :(

So very sad!

So sad, but a great reminder for all the new puppy owners out there.

This is so heartbreaking, thank you. When I first brought Annabelle home and realized girl was chewer, I scoured the internet looking for safe things for her to chew on. My daughter knows someone with a couple of goldendoodles so she asked her what they chewed on as puppies and she said sticks. They are nice and cheap and readily available and the dogs love them. I didn't think that was sound advice, especially for a puppy,  so I continued looking. I have never met this person, but hopefully she isn't still giving out that lousy advice.

Thanks for this reminder, Ro.

Thanks for the reminder. I know Cooper loves to get a hold of one to chew on. I always do my best to get it from him.
Oh no! So scary...our Angus picks up sticks constantly and we are always wrestling them away from him or saying , "Drop it drop it drop it." Ugh...when Angus was only a few months old, we ended up in the pet ER because he cut the back of his throat on a stick and was swallowing weird ...we thought a sick was stuck. $500 later and we are always VERY scared of him getting hurt again. Definitely an important reminder!
