Last evening we had a poop emergency - why does this stuff always have to happen when dh is gone and I could use an extra set of hands?  I had gone to our club to have some Happy Hour with a few friends - when I got back I gave Rooney his dinner and after a bit decided to take him out to do his business.  Coming back into the house he was sitting down funny, then he'd sit someplace else but was acting strange about it.  I go over to check to see what is wrong and I can smell POOP.  I looked at the underside but with all his brown fluffy hair there is nothing I can see so I decide to give it a quick wash.  I scrubbed and scrubbed but there was no end to the poo.  In the meantime Rooney is looking at me like "did I do something wrong mom?"  So now (and maybe this decision was influenced by my Happy Hour) I get the scissors out and I start trying to cut the dingle berries out of his fur.  I felt like I got them pretty good and then we did a quick bath on his bottom half.  We have never ever had this issue before and I really don't want it to happen again.  I'm going to have to clean the carpet - it doesn't show any poo but I know that those bad dingles were on it.  I hate to see the hack job I did with the scissors - think I'll be calling his groomer and get her over here for a hiney trim.  I love how Rooney little butt looks like a bear cub, see photo below that I just took last week, but I'm afraid it won't be this cute once we get it cut.  What do you do about long hair and dingle berries?

This is very funny, "dingle berries" I'll have to remember that, it makes it sound so nice...I keep Sadies rear trimmed, especially right under the tail. The groomer knows I do not want any "dingle berries"
We've always called them dingle berries - what do you call them?  LOL.
I have had this happen twice in 3 years and both times it was with Sophie!  I'm not sure what happened, but very similar situation in that as soon as she poo'd it was like she knew there was something still there and she sat, which didn't help the situation.  Both times of course when we were out in public.  Other than that, there has never been a problem with having long hair on their tooshes or even with the little dingle berries!
I'm a big believer in the "sanitary trim".  It's way easier to get at the "dingleberries".
Hi Jane -  I just had dublin groomed Tuesday and the only thing I had them clean up was his "Biscuits".  I could no longer handle the dingle berries and constantly chasing him with wipes and paper towels.  I had a groomer recommendation from my neighbor who owns a sheepdog so my faith was secure that I would not get Dublin back completley shaved bald from head to toe.  Well, I have to say he has the best "Biscuits" in town!  Not sure I can get a "Biscuit" shot for you as he is sleeping on my feet at the moment but it looks great and very normal.  Also,  I thought I would never survive the morning he decided to pass some mulch!  Try helping to pull that nonsense out of his Biscuits while he is yelping and trying to scoot....that will make the neighbors ask questions.  Doesn't stop him from still trying to eat it though!!  Happy Saturday.

Oh Jane...You had me laughing once again!!  Lol...

After reading your posts...I always want to sit and have a cup of tea with you...and chat about...anything and everything...and yes...even "Dingle Berries"!!  That's what we always call them too!!  Lol...

I find that if you keep their hair cut a bit shorter...you won't have that problem...and if it get's long...well...the "Dingle Berries"  will have a nice place to "cling to"!!  It's a simple as that!!  (smile)

I agree...running around with a paper towel and washing everytime they "Go"...Is Just Not Fun!!

Now...just how much Fun did you have at "Happy Hour" girlfriend??

By the looks of his pic...it looks like you did a pretty good job...even though you were "Scissor Happy"  Lol...

No worries though...it will grow back fast...and Rooney is such a cutie...no matter what his backside looks like!!

Don't forget to tell  Rooney that Sasha send her love...

Awww, thanks Susan - we can have tea anytime - I'd love it.  Tell Sasha that Rooney dood loves her back.  I don't have a picture of the hack job that I did on his butt - BUT the groomer will be here on Monday at 9:00 to give him a hiney cut so hopefully those nasty dingle berries won't come back here again!  I love this groomer - I call with a poop emergency and she justs gets right on it - and she comes in a mobile unit.  Gotta love that.
We always keep Buddy's rear trimmed with the sanitary cut.  When he was little and had loose stool a lot I was constantly using wipes on him or would find the dingle berries later in the day because when my DH would take him out he would never inspect Buddy after the fact and I always had to be the ones to cut them off.  So now it is nice and neat!  I am sure Rooney will look as good as ever!
LOL... I know EXACTLY what you are saying Jane!  I TOO rather have the long hair, but our groomer does a scissor cut on her butt and trims some of her tail hair too to prevent this from happening... I'll try and see if I have a pic to include... lol

We've almost always kept Sedona pretty short (problems with mats) so we haven't had a problem with dingle berry butt with her - Hercules, our fluffy old gray cat, however, is another story.  He's always walking around with something hanging off his rear.  That's one reason why he's an outside cat. (Don't worry cat lovers - he has his own "cat mansion" and access to the garage.  Plus we live in California.)

I agree that Rooney's butt is a thing to behold and it would be a shame if he had to go short, butt (misspelling intended) you may have to go that route...

Is THIS the picture AFTER you cut (with happy hour in your system??) If so, I'm gonna fly to you girl every 8 weeks for a grooming!  I think yo just found yourself a new way to spend your time when DH is in china, and make money too!!!   You go GIRL!!! WooHoo to YOU!
Shelly - no honey - this is his before photo - lol.  I realize that having butt shots of your dog are strange but in my defense - his butt is just so cute.  I had taken this picture a few days ago.
