Ace was the same way. For us, it was just a matter of taking him out like clock work. He never had a UTI. And now at 4 months he can hold his bladder for hours. Today for example, my family put him in his crate at 7am before they left the house for school and work. I get home at 9:20am. I took him out of his crate. He went right to his favorite sleep spot and slept until 12:15pm. He went to the door when he woke up, I took him out and he let all of his pee out. It was a lot.
Based on our experience, the frequent urination is a phase. An annoying, frustrating phase, but you have to stick with it to get your puppy to the point where Ace is now. Ace still likes to drink and one of his ploys is, when he goes in his crate, he will bark. We let him out and he makes a mad dash for his water bowl as if he hadn't had anything to drink in days. He really just wants to get out of the crate to be near us. We're onto him. We let him get his drink and we put him right back in. Ace will also lick the dew off of the grass and when it rains, he'll lick the deck.
I think one thing to remember is when they are this young and we are training, we are giving them lots of treats. Treats and things like bully sticks make them thirsty.
