Puppy Food

I will be getting my Doodle in a few weeks and was wondering what everyone is feeding their Doodles...wet food, dry food, or a combination of both?
Also what kind of food do you all feel is good?
I am looking to feed him something without "animal digest." Or any of that other yucky stuff...something very healthy.

Thank you for all of your replies...I think I am going to try the Wellness at first, mixed with whatever the breeder had been feeding him (I looked that kind up & it had some animal digest in it - YUCK!!!)

My vet just told me to switch my puppy to Natural Balance Venison and sweet potatoes. My old dog and my puppy have been having ear problems (allergies) and they said this would help! l am going to give it a try! Does anyone know the difference between it and Wellness. They were side by side! Do they have Venison formula too. I love the fact I can feed my older dogs and my puppy the same food.

We feed our 10 month old miniature goldendoodle Origen Puppy Dry Food. She eats it pretty good. She is an extremely picky eater and we tried several of the high quality brands before ending up here and she either wasn't interested, or she would eat and then throw it back up. She just likes the taste of this one best. Ocassionally, I will mix in a little turkey or chicken or a scrambled egg on the weekend.

We have been through a few foods, and have settled on Natural Balance. The breeder started them on Orijens, they didn't do well, so she switched them to Wellness Puppy, which was what they were on coming home. They never had any solid stools on this food and also, as I was cutting Wellness puppy treats into smaller pieces with meat scissors I started finding chunks of bone that the meat scissors had trouble cutting through. I called Wellness & they only told me to return the food if I wasn't satisfied. So I did some research & found some bad reviews & some video on U-TUBE, where people were finding bones in the food, which advertised as de-boned meats. After both puppies ended up with very loose stools we had to give them cooked chicken & rice and started to wean in Purina ProPlan Naturals. Stools started getting soft, did more research and they are now on Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance and stools are firm, puppies are healthy & happy. There are no by-products & no grain in their allergy formulas. It all comes down to what your puppy does well on, what you & he are both happy with & hopefully your vet & breeder will approve too. We had a problem with our puppy also. He was treated for giardia, so we had figured that was causing him to have extremely loose stools. After he no longer had the giardia, his stools were still extremely loose. The vet had thought he may have food sensitivities and prescribed Royal Canin Hypoallergenic formula. It was $27 for 6 lbs of food. I started researching other foods and found Natural Balance. I tried Natural Balance Venison & Sweet Potato formula. Ollie has not had any problems since and he LOVES the food. I had also asked for advice in the food group here on Doodle Kisses and received many suggestions just in case Natural Balance didn't work.

sooty is 11 weeks old and he will eat anything that you give him he eats so much we decided to put him on adult dog food cause you can buy bigger cans... and he still wants more... the only thing iv noticed is that hes poop is runny .... im new to this puppy thing and am wondering after reading everyones replys if i should put him back on the puppy food???

Hi Linda! Congratulations on your new puppy! You should join the Food Group here on DK if you haven't already. What brand of adult food are you feeding your puppy? He should probably stay on puppy food because it has more protein in it, unless you're using an all life stages food.

HI Linda. Congratulations on your new puppy. Welcome to Doodle Kisses! I think you should put him back on the puppy food and feed him smaller amounts more often throughout the day. I'm NO expert, but you can find a lot of information on food for your puppy in the Food Group section. From what my vet has told me... I don't think you should give your puppy adult food now. Puppies need the extra fat and protein of the specially formulated puppy food for good growth and development. The puppy food is specially formulated to fit a PUPPY'S needs. They have different needs than an adult dog and therefore their food IS different. Just like a human baby should NOT be given cereal before they mature enough, such is a puppy and its food. I am feeding Chewie Solid Gold Wolf Cub puppy food. The main ingredient is Bison. He really seems to like it. The breeder was feeding it to the litter. It is for large breed puppies. He has been doing very well on it. Check out the Solid Gold website for more information and I think you will be pleased.

Bella is nearly 10 months.We stayed with the breders food, Chicken Soup large breed puppy for about 6 months & she didn't seem to want it anymore. She is now on large breed puppy Origen & loves it. It has no fillers. She gets half kibble & half home- cooked meals ( 1 cup kibble, 1 cup home cooked per meal) we plan to leave her on puppy kibble for her first year, then switch to adult kibble. We will continue with Origen, it is a great food & we will absolutely remain cooking for her also, it's so easy, I picked up lots of tips from the homecooking section on this site :)

I gave Beckett Innova puppy food when he was little.I really liked it. We've since switched over to Fromm. Beckett loves it so I'm sure their puppy food is good too.
