Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi everyone! I'm a fairly new member here, and I don't even have my pup yet! We pick him up in 2 weekends and we are so very excited.

My husband and I are getting a black male GD from a breeder in southeastern, PA. We've been married for just about six months. I've been raised with dogs for my entire life, and not having a dog of my own for the past few years living apart from my family and with him has been hard. I've been looking forward to getting our first dog, and the time has finally arrived. My husband has never had a dog, so this will be a very fun time for us to share.

Since we're starting from scratch I thought I'd share my list of things we have, and see if anyone can suggest anything we might need thats not on our list.

Crate (small to start, larger one when he grows)

food (TOTW) and whatever his breeder feeds to transition

food/water Bowls

Nylabone (circle and bones)

Kong

soft toys

balls

"bed"

treats

Brush

Shampoo

leash & harness (around shoulders)

"puppy" towels

Going to get:
Bitter Apple (is that the best brand?)

Nature's Miracle (again, any better suggestions?)

Anything else we're missing?

I just love the portable plastic fence enclosure you can use in the house or out....great place to put them when company or children are there during puppy stages....time outs etc....so you don't need to discipline them with their crates. I would get the taller one for longer use....it folds down too.
Get the largest container of natures miracle.
I like to use a portable pet carrier to help socialize puppies in many places while they are waiting to finish their vaccines. I use the type that looks like a baby carrier that you wear in front. This way you can walk about with them, allow people to say hello, etc. without the danger of exposure to parvo before the puppy has built up an immunity to it.

One of my favorite things for my puppy is called a "Bully Stick"-its a chew stick that last for a

VERY long time. Its made from a bull's private part (yuck)-look for that in your petstore

and its safe for puppies. It keeps him occupied and not chewing things he shouldn't.

How exciting!  I brought home my baby boy goldendoodle at the end of November.  He is such a sweetheart!  He is a standard and is 37 lbs at 5 months...  Not sure how big he'll be when he's finished growing!  My husband and I have both agreed that he is the perfect size now, so you are lucky!  I read that someone had suggested the bully stick.  I was encouraged to try it too, but my dog chewed on it awhile and then swallowed a large piece of it.  It scared me to death!          I called the and they told me what to watch for.  He ended up being fine but he isn't allowed to have them anymore!  He is a big chewer and I know most people swear by them, he was just determined to beat the odds I guess.  He loves the Sam's Yams sweet potato chews though...   Good luck on Saturday all 3 boys are precious in the picture!  Can't wait to see more!

Thank you so much for your kind response! ;-] This is such a great forum, and I'm so happy to have found it in perfect time before picking out our pup! Thanks for the suggestions about the bully stick, we bought one that should arrive soon, we'll make sure to watch him especcially close for the first few times.

My one dog (15ish) years ago had a Pig Ear that scratched his throat really bad as he swallowed a large chunk of it. We never let that happen again, Ive heard less problems with the bully sticks, though. ;]

P.s. Oscar is sooooo handsome! ;-]
