I'm just wondering if this is normal for puppies. Charlie is now exactly 3 months old and when he goes to the bathroom, I've noticed that the first round is nice and hard, but if he goes a second time within a couple of seconds/minutes, it's much softer; sometimes its like pudding.

I haven't switched over his food yet or changed anything in his diet. He's still eating pumpkin ocassionally and plain yogurt.

Good question. I'm curious about this as well! Sophie just turned 8 months old and this still happens to her quite frequently. Following :)

I am not an expert but it is my understanding that the longer stool stays in the large colon the more water is absorbed from it so.....the first round of poop was in the colon longer hence it is firmer and the last just has not been there as long so it has more water content.   I would not worry about it unless he begins to have all of his poops like pudding or worse.....then I would take a sample in to check for Giardia.   Charlie is a cutie!

That sounds reasonable to me, Gail. My boys are 4 and 2 and if they go more than once at the same time, the first "batch" is more solid than the rest.

Thank you so much!!
What I was told (after testing for giardia) was the second round just isn't "cooked" yet. Spike was like this all the time. It's a puppy thing. They think they have to push everything out at once. As they get a bit older they understand to get rid of what's needed and not to strain and push to get the rest out. Descriptive enough?! Hahaha
Haha okay thank you!,
