Ember has just about outgrown her current harness/seatbelt, which is a cheap one from Petco. It has been such a hassle... when she was younger she would get tangled in it, twirl around and get stuck, then whine/bark so I would have to pull over and fix her. Finally I moved her to the front passenger seat so I could make sure she didn't get tangled. That worked just fine and she rides in the car like a champ. Lays down and usually naps, sits up at stop lights, then back down for more snoozing.
Well, now that she's grown out of the harness, I'm wondering what I should look for now! What are you guys using in the car? I'd love for her to be able to be in the back seat and move around, but not get thrown around if I stop suddenly.

We have had this discussion in the past. It comes up at least once a year. I did a lot of research and purchasing before I finally got the K9 Champion harness. There are quite a few people on DK that use it. I love it. I also have an adjustable leash that has a seat belt buckle that just plugs into the seat belt latch on it. I use it as the tether rather than the one that comes with the harness. I clip it to the harness and can adjust it to the distance I want Gracie to be able to go in the back seat. I let her go as far as the door window. I also want her to be able to lay down since we do 8 hour drives. For the tether I use you will have to Google around using words like "seat belt dog leash". I can't remember where I actually got it but I also got one for my daughter.
I too have been through a few different things - little car bed mainly which always worked well for Brady, but he is getting a little big and seems to want to sit up and watch out the window now. My latest idea seems to work well to give him a bit of traction - I bought a clear rubber bath mat with suction cups and cut it to fit the front seat. So far, it's good and nice as I can move it around the car easily.
