After three weeks of having the bells on the door and her acting scared of them, today she rang the bells!!!!!!! TWICE!!!!!! It came out of nowhere, but I am so happy :) I'm letting her stay out a little more today, since she has used them to see how she would do, and she is finally getting it!

Such a smart puppy!

WhooooHoooo!  The little things in life!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great news, once they start using them it sure makes life easier! I was chasing 2 around having to take them out often and it was a huge relief when they could actually tell me when they needed to go, the bells are awesome!

I remember how excited I was when Josie finally got it. Usually it's a great help. Sometimes she hits the bells when she just wants to go out - especially if someone has just left the house.

We finally figured out the difference, but she's 14 months and has a pretty set schedule. Sometimes they're TOO smart!

Congratulations! The bells were a blessing to us and the only way I would ever go.

So much easier!  Congrats!

Well, she hasn't used them since, but at least I know SHE KNOWS HOW :) Silly puppy... she is always testing her mama :) Eventually, I'm sure it will become a regular thing.

question about that (congrats btw) Denali isn't scared of them and instead thinks they are a toy. He plays with them and so I take him out and before I can even get my sandals off he is playing with them again. Is there a way to communicate to him that they are a tool rather than a toy? I use his paw to ring them before we go out every time and I take him out when he rings them unless we have literally just come inside. But yesterday I took him out maybe 3 times in a 30 minute period.

Congratulations!!  We found the bells to be ideal way of knowing when Hurley needed to go out.  He went through the 'ringing just to go out'.   What we did is when he rang the bells we took him out on the leash.  If he did not go potty, but seemed to want to play, after 3-5 minutes we came back inside.    We would then wait 15 minutes and then take him out to play.   As for potty time and the bell if we had just taken him out and he did his business we would not take him back out for a couple of hours.  Actually we soon could tell the difference in his bell ringing as to what was potty ringing and what was just ringing to get our attention.

Hope that helps.
