Marley has been sick since last Friday. A little bit of vomiting on random days, occassional diarrhea, and sleeping ALOT. However, in the backyard she is more than happy to catch a ball or frisbee or chase, Lilly (Westie). I have been in contact with the vet daily giving updates and last night he decided she had colitis and would begin taking Metronidazole (sp). However, this morning, she vomited up a cotton crew sock of hubbys, and 2 hours later 3 (yes, 3) low cut sport socks of our sons! Vet now feels that her stomach is totally torn up, and she should eat a tablespoon or 2 of rice and chicken every couple of hours. If she can't keep it down, we are going for xrays and possible surgry in the morning :( Any ideas or experience would be helpful, as well as prayers and positive thoughts!!!

UPDATE: Marley is home for the holidays and we couldn't be happier :) No surgery was needed! While she was spa-ing at the vet... we searched high and low for socks, and other things she might find appetizing, moved hampers and realized how much Marley makes our house...our home!

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR PRAYERS, POSITIVE THOUGHTS, WELL WISHES AND ADVICE :)

Amy...looking at Marley's photo...she's too cute to be a sock eater!! As I write this I just took my daughters underwear out of Izzy's cute little mouth:)
What I'm finding is that because Lucca is 2 I was lax in the closing of doors as he did grow out of the sock eating part, but never the stealing part. Kind of like when you get kid #2, you are a little more lax but I now have gates everywhere...and doors closed....again:) This Izzy is a heck of a lot more challenging than Lucca ever was (she's a sneak and all over the place...fast), but then again, maybe I forgot:)
I am going to get a gate today! Marley is pretty calm so I think we just thought she was the wonder dog and didn't take as many precautions as we should have. Obviously this is about to change :)
Update: Borrowed a Reglan (for nausea) from my SIL and followed advice from Helen below. Fed Marly 1 tbl every 2 hours along with 1/4 c of water. She kept it down until for 4 hours. At 12 she went in the backyard and vomited. Devestated I took her to the vet this morning, and hoped for the best. While talking to my son on the phone (he called to check on her!), I discovered sock #5!!! I immediately called the vet. Hopefully this is the last one, and the beginning of MAJOR changes at our house :)
OMG....I'm surprised she can even eat...she has such a full tummy. Keep us posted and yes, major changes are due. This has to be soooo scary for you. I am also going to suggest Pet Insurance if you don't already have it. It sounds like you may have some expensive vet bills with Miss Marley. Quite a few of us have PetPlan and they pay well. Here's a link to review the ins companies... http://www.petinsurancereview.com/index.asp
Thank you for posting this.  I had intended to check into Pet Insurance, and this was a great reminder!  I just submitted my info for a quote.
Better to do it now before you get a huge bill like others have:)
Thank you for this reminder.  I spent a few hours checking and comparing pet insurance, and purchased PetPlan Silver today for both Melody and Morgan. It doesn't have a wellness preventive care plan, but this is sure a step up from what we dealt with in the past!  I sure hope Marly is doing well now.  NO MORE SOCKS!
Oh my gosh, poor Marley.  That is so scary, how quickly they can get into things!  Please keep us posted.....

Reading everyone's posts about their dogs "diets" have been both funny and scary!  Manny's favorites are rugs (the frilly ends), tissue, and his stuffed toys (the goal is always total annihilation!) He doesn't counter surf because we taught him he can not go into the kitchen and he only recently received access to the rest of the house (about at 10 months) so he just plays with everyone or lies around but has not grabbed any underwear, laundry or socks (thanks God)! He is pretty happy with (and thankfully prefers) his toys to much of anything else. However, my daughter got some "doggie" slippers and he seems to think they are his stuffed toys so she unfortunately can't wear them around Manny ;-)

And YES, baby gates are awesome! We used it since we got Manny and used it to slowly introduce him to parts of the house. We are now using it with Izzy!
