Sky is getting spayed June 11th. I'm worried about it! She doesn't love her crate but I know she'll need some down time away from our 2 year old and 4 year old.

Will it be harder for her since she's an older puppy? (She turns 1 June 18th)

I have never had a female dog so never experienced a spay recovery.  My only recommendation would be, if possible, try to have it done with laser surgery.  The incision and blood loss are much more minimal and may not even require stitches. One of my boys had laser surgery for the neuter and the other did not.  The laser incision healed so much cleaner and quicker than the other.  It is a bit more costly but IMO well worth it.  Use the pain meds if prescribed which may help her relax in the crate...reducing pain can also help speed recovery.

I can't answer your question about age but I think Sky's overall health is more important than her age..a one year old is still a young pup.   Best of luck!!!

Enzo barely skipped a beat with her spay. Keeping her calm and quiet was the worse. She wanted to run and play and just didn't understand. We actually ended up getting a sedative for her. We also invested in a soft cone for her, as opposed to the huge plastic cone the Vet gave us.
She will be fine. I was worry my Goldendoodle. I had mine done last week. She was resting and sleeping for 5 days. I had a t-cup poodle and he had his done when he was a year old. He did great. Good luck!!!!

Thank you for getting your puppy spayed.  It is so important that our pets not be bred for many reasons.  Leave the breeding to the breeders (and they do a great job).  I always get males because the neutering is so easy and I have it done even before they leave their breeders, but that is questionable to many.  My friend, who does agility, says to wait until their bones have matured.  Buy Sky is definitely old enough.  Has she had her first heat?  A few decisions to make because any time you have anesthesia, there could be problems.  One of my dogs had terrible reactions to anesthesia so I had his vet use laser surgery for removing a large cyst from his neck.  I think there is a photo in the photos on my page.  No problem at all and he had it done and took him right home.  I highly recommend laser surgery.  She may need a little down time but spaying is like having a baby - take a look at all the people and dogs out there.  Everyone has been through it and it is just a normal part of life.
