Dewey is 4 months old. The last two days he has been experiencing loose stools. So much that he can not make it through a night's sleep without whimpering to go out at least three times. His behavior is normal and he is as playful as ever. I can't see a scenario where he has got into something poisonous, etc. that would cause this ailment. The bad side of this predicament is the "mistakes" he has had on the carpet by an otherwise housebroken puppy and the sleepless nights (him and me). The good side is that he has tried to warn me via pounding on his crate or jumping for his bell that it's go time.

Sorry for the long wind. Is it possible that this situation is a result of teething? I know when babies are teething they tend to get loose stools. Any suggestions? If this continues throughout the weekend then i will take him to the vets.

Thanks for input

I doubt it is due to teething. I'd scoop up a stool sample and drop it off at the vet. Any used but cleaned yogurt cup or other clean disposable container will do :)

Hmmm, all things i did not know or think about. He does like to get his nose into everything in our yard. I guess it would not hurt to drop a sample off at the vets.
Being that it is Friday I would definitely drop a sample at the vet - you know you want to catch up on sleep this weekend! Poor baby....
Zelda had coccidia (a common parasite in puppies) when she was about 2.5 months old. She had diarrhea and had to go out at least 3 times a night until it got taken care of. I would take a sample to the vet especially if she has been playing with other puppies as it is very contagious.
The vet gave him a common anti-infective medication (metrodizanole). That, coupled with a rice and chicken diet over the last 7 days, has seemed to clear up the diarrhea. The ironic part is that now he barely musters one poop per day. It has not affected his behavior, he's still playfull as ever. This ordeal has shown me how well he has taken to potty training. He scratched at doors and whined in his crate until we could get out of bed and let him out. I'm sure it was not easy on him. By the way, the vet did not see anything in his stool sample.
Oh great news....hope his poop stays good after this!
