Hello doodle friends! Ok, we just bought a nice new home last July, we got Ollie in September and he is almost 6 months old. He is still potty training but ringing the bell to go out about 85% of the time. Sometimes he rings it and I open the back door and he won't go out w/out me. (Hey! It's 30 degrees!)

So back to my topic, he will sometimes go out and I have no idea what he's doing back there but he comes back with gross muddy paws (our backyard stays pretty moist which stinks). I like a clean house so how do I manage this? If I try to wipe his paws w/ a wet cloth he freiks out and I don't end up really getting them clean. I've tried running the paws under a faucet but that makes me get soaking wet because he's thrashing. Is there a happy medium?  We are looking to buy some new furniture, rugs and I am so afraid to get anything new bc he just seems to "darken" anywhere he goes!

Hmm.
When Spike was small we kept one of those Rubbermaid portable dish tubs in the kitchen (access point to our backyard). Before we opened the door to let Spike back in we checked him and if he was muddy we filled the tub got it ready on our back landing. When Spike came in I picked him up and plopped him into it. From there I was able to rub his paws to get them clean without having my own bath in the process. On the top of our back landing we got a fair size "dirty paws" mat. After he came out of the dish tub he had no choice but to walk on that and there we dried him. He protested to the process in the beginning but he soon learned that it was standard operating procedure. Plus there was always a cookie for his troubles :)
Now that he is bigger he is trained to come right in and sit on the dirty paws mat. If he fails inspection I carry him into the bathroom and plop him into the tub. I just use a little water in the bottom. And it is the same process as the dish tub.
If he ever comes in just wet with no mud we keep an old towel by the back door. He sits on the mat and we just dry him.
Hope this helps!!

We got a Paw Plunger and love it! It is like a giant coffee mug that we fill with warm water. The lid screws on and acts essentially like a golf ball cleaner. Put one paw in, and plunge it up and down. Then dry his paws off with a towel! He wasn't sure about it at first, but he's now used to it, and of course, he gets a treat!

Either supervise him out there, or have a bucket by your back door. When we first started "dunking and wiping" Winnie's paws, she also would "freak out." She would thrash around and try to bite at the towel. But with time she learned to just relax and let me do it. Now, she knows that when she comes inside she has to sit by the door while I am on "Paw Patrol."  :-)  And, the good thing about all of that foot handling is that she has absolutely no problem letting me clip her toenails!
