Luna LOVES to fetch....however some of her toys are not the "fetching" type and are downright dangerous to be thrown.   She or I will normally initiate it with a fetching toy and she will normally fetch the first time at least but sometimes she deviates the path and goes to her toy basket and brings an inappropriate toy.  Examples of inappropriate toys - (all of her toys have names) - Marvin the dinosaur, a very hard plastic dinosaur chewing toy that has nubbys on it - would hurt if I accidentally hit Luna or one of the cats.  Her full size deer antler that has 3 points on it (Bambi) and a very large black kong bone thingy...    All 3 of these she will choose over say a squishy ball with holes in it, a super soft "dura-toy" that is super easy to get out of her mouths and squeaks like you wouldn't believe.... Once she picks up these other toys - she cannot be swayed with anything else - she will then take her antler for example and try to make me throw it by digging it into my lap or legs (I'm normally on the floor with her).  She becomes fixated on these toys and then seems "mad" that I won't throw them for her.  Is this normal or I am doing something wrong here?

Ha ha, I have this problem with my toy poodle. My doodle doesnt seem to care for fetching whatsever :(
Daisy, the poodle, wants to play with the super large or hard toys (even though she's less than 8 pounds!). Her favorite thing to fetch ever is golf balls...but of course they are very unsafe. We have to remove all unsafe toys before fetching. She's 9 now & still doesn't get it! Small squeaky tennis balls seem to be a decent substitute. If they want to fetch enough, they learn to get over it :) Good luck!
