Hi everyone!

We're finally picking up Roo on Saturday. I can't believe it's finally here! I've been reading everything on this site and puppy books. I'm starting to get nervous I'll forget everything once I actually have to execute training and what not!

Anyways, I have a question regarding friends and family meeting Roo. Everyone is so excited to meet him, but I don't want to overwhelm him. Do you think I should let him get adjusted before having a few visitors or do you think if it's only one or two people it will be okay?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

You should let your puppy adjusted your home first and then wait for a week or so to have one or two people only. Your puppy is cute. Congrats!

Thanks for the advice :)

You're welcome:)

Oh wow, Roo is adorable!

I brought my puppy Omar home a little over 2 weeks ago. The first night was a quiet night but the very next day I had my best friend over with her children, aged 8 and 11 and it was great! The following evening I had another friend over with her two small children, aged 4 and 2, and things went very well again. Other friends came to visit as well, some solo and others in couples. I wanted Omar to be exposed to people and kids right away. On the 4th day we had him, he came out with us to a dinner party where there were 10 guests, 4 of them children and he did very well. I was so proud! He even did his business outside twice throughout the evening and never soiled my friend's house. He did not appear to be overwhelmed at all.

I think it is a good idea to expose Roo to visitors immediately but that's just my two cents and it worked out well for me. Anyway, enjoy your puppy! You will be smiling for weeks even though you should be prepared to be annoyed sometimes. It's so worth it though. Congrats!!! :)

Thank you! People were asking to visit Monday so I feel like that's a happy medium two days with just me and my boyfriend and then a couple new friends to meet.

What an adorable, sweet baby! I have a special soft spot for those red doodles! I think the meet and greet just depends on your individual puppy's temperament, how well you feel you can control the situation, and how calm and collected your friends can be. I would probably wait at least a day. You won't want to share his sweet soft self anyway!

I love red doodles! Ragley is soo cute btw. I started following you on Instagram :) Thank you for the advice!

Adjusting to your home environment is best. The problem with visitors is everyone wants to hold him...and who could blame them? But being handed off to one person after another can be frightening in a loud environment.
Socialization is one thing, over-whelming is another. Just be in tuned to his body language....when you see he has had enough, remove him from the noise and chaos and let him rest.

Thanks Ro! That's a good point about being handed off to everyone.

What an adorable puppy! Congratulations.

Thank you!!

Beautiful red coat!  I think keeping it low key at first is best.  For me, I will stress out if we have visitors, never mind the puppy, lol.  We will have an issue keeping the children on the street away -- I'm sure my boys are going to let ALL know there is a puppy arriving. Good luck =)
