It is so hot here and so I have had water available at all times for my 10 week old. However, I take him to potty every 15 minutes and he will pee twice in the house between those times. Is this normal.? Should I only give him water at certain times? He is black and I am sure hot all the time, but the potty training has been very difficult with him consuming a big bowl of water every 4 hours. He has already been neutered so I know he is not marking.

BTW 10 weeks is soooo young. We took Peri out every 15 minutes until 11 weeks probably. It gets better.
Thank you for telling me, we are coming up on 11 weeks so hopefully there is an end to this tunnel!!!
Just wanted to let all of you know that Bear is really showing quite an improvement. With the crate schedule and only icecubes at night we are finally making headway! Thank you so much for the advice. I obviously really needed it!!
Glad - I knew it would get better for you and Bear!
This might be a little question to add on to Cherri's - Ellie is now about 18 weeks and she isn't housetrained and it's driving me a bit nuts. I leave in her my bathroom when I'm at work and I'd say 90% of the time she doesn't make any accidents in the 8 hrs I'm gone. But when I'm home, she goes and pees whenever and wherever!

I know she can hold it but it seems like when I'm around she decides to go pee and when I'm not around, she doesn't. Does anyone have any insight to this? Should I be crating her when she's at home? She gets free-range of my apt when I'm there...
Should I be crating her when she's at home?

YES!!! Crate training is not just for when you're gone but when you can't keep both eyes on her. She's taken to considering the bathroom 'her space' and dogs don't like to go in their space...but when they are little and have a WHOLE apartment to roam in freely...well...they are bound to have more accidents.

She still has to be taken out every 30 minutes or so (possibly) and then when you can NOT keep both eyes on her, her freedom must be restricted until she earns the freedom.
I still don't let Peri have free reign of the house. We use a doggy gate to keep her confined to the room we are in. She knows we are watching her. A few weeks ago, we were still taking her out every 30 minutes or so. But now, we take her for longer walks (so she gets more chances to eliminate) and we can safely wait over an hour between trips. Unless she gets hot, gulps down a bowl of water, throws up and pees 'cause it scared her! That happened last week, but was her first accident in 3 weeks.
We are also still crating her during the day, but go home for a big walk midday.
I know this sounds crazy, but that scent on the floor causes the constant urge to potty as well. I sprayed vinegar all over my carpet and it really helped with my teenage dog. That smell is supposed to confuse them. Good Luck. It is so frusterating especially with the older ones.
