What to buy before puppy arrives?

Hi there,

We will be bringing home a nine-week old Goldendoodle on Oct. 31. I am so excited, but this is my first dog in 20 years, so I'd really appreciate tips on what I should purchase before he arrives. I know the crate, leash, collar and a few other basics, but I wonder if dogs are like babies and people buy all this gear and don't end up using half of it. Any tips on puppy must-haves would be greatly appreciated! Thanks  :)

Our pick up date got pushed back a week, so we go this Saturday now. I ordered all my supplies on Amazon and had them shipped to a neighbor's house since we are surprising our kids. Can't wait!

Will you videotape their reaction? I'd love to see.
My boys were not surprised to say the least. I had them picking up their socks and walking an invisible dog for forever beforehand, lol! Nagging isn't fun.
