Riley the bernedoodle

Hi,

We've chosen our next dog!  She's a 5-week old bernedoodle (Bernese mountain dog/standard poodle) - coming home in late September.  We wanted something really different from Luna (F1 mini goldendoodle) since our hearts are still broken from her passing.

I know Luna never had the tufts around her eyes and she was a flat-coated goldendoodle so I'm predicting at least "scruffy" for this little one.  I looked at some pictures of Bernese puppies and she only looks slightly fluffier than one of those so I don't think she will be curly.

What do you think?

It's Riley :)  Luna is our previous dog, most people around here knew me as Luna's mom so I just left her name in there.

I knew that - just got the names mixed up :-) Maybe because I really like the name Luna!

It's been a month since an update... Riley is officially larger than Luna was as an adult!

She's about 20w old now, 18 kg (40 lbs).  To give you an idea of her size - She now has full access to her 42" crate since when she stretches out she pretty well fills out the whole thing.  DH thought I was ridiculous for buying such a large crate.... he doesn't talk about it anymore ;)

I was going to trim the fluff between her eyes but it got long enough that it flopped over and doesn't obstruct her vision :p  Her coat is about 4" long now on her body and her tail hair has finally started to grow in so it matches the rest of her coat.  So far no matting, a little shedding though there aren't too many tumbleweeds around the house.  I brush her 1-2 times a week and after baths and have yet to find any matting.

Here she is hogging my maternity pillow (she sleeps in her crate not the bed but we snuggle sometimes!)

Posing for me.  Don't tell my daughter that Riley sat on her unicorn :p  For some reason the unicorn makes Riley look small... let me assure you it is a HUGE unicorn (about 3 ft tall)

Riley is just so gorgeous! She looks big only in the last photo. Tell your daughter its all in the family!

She is much larger than she appears in most photos lol.  Lots of fluff but she is over knee height at the shoulder on me and I'm about 5'5", I'd say probably about the size of an adult portugese water dog or border collie.

Riley is just adorable.  I loved her from her first photos and she only gets cuter as she grows.  She has a presence that comes through.  Pictures can be deceiving - Ned often is thought to be a standard in photos and he's a large mini.

She's for sure a character lol.  This is a terrible picture but when she gets extra riled up she actually HOWLS at us.. never had a dog who howls before!  It's kind of annoying but it's so hard to get mad at her.

Okay, I am officially in love with Riley! She is just adorable. That photo on the unicorn... oh my DOODLE!

She's so FLUFFY!  It's amazing lol.  After having a smooth-coated doodle I can't get over the scruffiness of it all it's like living with a cartoon character.
