What changes occur when the pup get the adult coat if they start out as silky? Does it get coarser? Stay silky? Get even softer? And does the silky puppy coat/adult coat become matted easily???

C, this needed to be a discussion so people could answer your question.
Ned is the only doodle I have had from puppyhood, although I have met lots of doodles and watched them grow. Many, many of the doodles I have watched grow up get curlier and less soft.
Ned's coat hasn't changed drastically in looks, curl or texture. He began to seriously mat at about 7 months and continued until he was over two years. He still mats but not quite as quickly. His coat is high maintenance. We have him groomed about every 4 weeks.
I have two F1 Goldendoodles. One was black and silky as could be as a pup. He has faded to a pewter color and his coat is coarser. The other is cream. His coat is wispy and wavy as a pup. As an adult it is very thick and wavy. His coat is coarser on his back. The rest is practically like bunny fur.
I think the only appropriate answer would be yes, no, maybe, probably, sometimes, all of the above, none of the above. Every doodle is different. Some change in color, some change in texture, some in wavey to curly, some mat, some don't, some shed before, some after, some never. It really is just a crap shoot. The best thing you can do is to be prepared for the matting to start which could occur anytime after about 8 months. Just keep them really really brushed out down to the skin.
Well, I guess I still don't understand how all of this works, again, apologies to members who were surprised by the entry.
No one was surprised. Your question is one of the most common ones so it is good to revisit it. I felt it needed to be in a discussion or you wouldn't find the answers.
