Which Anti Epileptic drug or drug combo is the most successful for our doodles?

I was wondering which medication/s work for most of your dogs and which ones don't?

We so far have tried Keppra (Levetiracetam). It works very well in combination with Pheno and/ or Potassium Bromide for many dogs in my seizure groups. But it didn't work as SOLE AED for our Jasper.

We have now weaned him off it and are trying Pheno instead. 

I know of a Labradoodle who tried Zonisamide as SOLE AED without success, but now on Pb he is already more then 5 months seizure free.

Happy to share a positive Sadie update & a thank-you to Kirsy for asking about her. I never miss a post to this group, but often feel I don't have a lot to add. I really only know what I've learned works for Sadie through trial and error and I realize each Doodle's case is different and special. Sadie's phenobarbital at 64.8 2x a day is holding steady and her bloodwork thus far (she is 6 now!) shows some mild changes but much less than my Vet would expect at this point and current dose. Sadie is also on liquid gold injections every 2 weeks for her allergies with her serum addressing the most severe 8 of them with the top culprit being human dander. Poor pup, allergic to her human Momma! And yet she still snuggles as always! Sadie has approx 2-5 breakthrough seizures a year that I feel strongly link to pesticides but I can't prove that. It just seems that after our nearby College treats the fields, or after her heartworm or flea/tick treatments these things occur. But, they don't always occur. I wish I could say why & do whatever that is more. Sadie hugs & love to all our seizure-doodle friends! xo LG and Sadie

Hi LG & Sadie,

Shame you can't do anything about the field treatments of the college. Flea/ tick/ heartworm and other worm medics need a bit of trying, as every epi dog reacts differently to them. Jasper for instance is totally fine after REVOLUTION, DRONTAL and COMFORTIS. Where some dogs will get a seizure. So I am trying to stick with what I know works for him.
