Butter gained almost 5lb since the last checkup!! Yay!
He had a vet appointment and got almost clean bill of health. Dr. Sweeny said that there is still some red blood cells in his urine, which let him know that there is something going on with his prostate. He said we can do the ultrasound to see what is going on. He said the 3 possible causes are 1) simply enlarged prostate. Due my ignorance, he was never neutured. 2) Simple tumor in his prostate 3) Prostate cancer. Ultrasound will find out which one of the 3 is causing red blood cells in his urine, and if they are 2) or 3), he will need to under go surgery. If the cause is 1), we will simply monitor his urine from now on. Dr. Sweeny said that if I don't plan to have surgery on him, there really is no point of doing the ultrasound...and because of his age, going through with the surgery can be risky for him. I chose the option to monitor his urine from now on, and I will be getting his urine tested for each month from now on... But I am very happy with his weight gain and happier disposition!!
I'm glad Butter has gained some weight.
At a certain point, I think it's wise to just give the best care you can, and let nature take its course. My elderly cat has similar issues. I give her the best food I can find, lots of love and attention, make sure she's comfortable, and let her be. There is no point in putting her through procedures and tests that would frighten her; stress can do a lot of damage, too.
I hope Butter continues to do well and enjoys life for as long as possible.
