Training help

[DonMarie and Picco]

I'm training Picco myself and he's good at walking indoors around pet stores. I haven't taken him into any other places yet. He is good around people and other dogs in the stores. My problem is when we take walks/runs in the neighborhood. He gets distracted by every dog he hears or sees. I make him sit and get his attention before moving on. Sometimes this works but there is a couple of instances where he is completely obsessed with the other dogs (I guess they are sending out special vibes) and the only thing I could do is drag him away until he far enough from the distraction. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to avoid these situations because they will always come up, but I just want him to mind me.

There are training collars that use vibration or sound rather than shock and they work well for me, and don't hurt or traumatize my dog.  If you go this route get a trainer to teach you the proper use of the collar.  Good luck.
