Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have a 13 week old aussiedoodle/goldendoodle who has been a shedder since we brought him home, but suddenly in the last few days his shedding has gotten far worse. We have noticed some very huge changes in his growth, body and even coat recently. Could he just be going through a change or should we be concerned that something else is happening?? The weather here is very cold so we wondered if maybe his skin was dry and started giving him some olive oil in his food, but that hasn't helped. Any suggestions or opinions would really be appreciated. We see the vet for a check up next week but are still concerned in the meantime.....

13 weeks is very young for a puppy to have any type of skin condition. I'm guessing that he's going through a growth spurt and his shedding is accelerating, but I'm not sure. I doubt that it's any type of health issue. I would not be concerned.

For dry skin, you want the omega 3 fatty acids DHA and EFA, which are only found in fish oils. Many of us here give fish oil for the skin and coat. Olive oil consists mainly of omega 9 fatty acids, which are not essential fatty acids, as the body makes them. It will not help dry skin when taken internally.
