Anyone here in the group live on Catalina Island?

We are planning a trip over to Catalina and would like to take our 8 month old puppy, Enzo. According to the Catalina Express website, dogs need to be muzzled? I plan on calling their office, but was just wondering how strict they are . Any incite ?

Strict, every time we've gone the dogs were muzzled. You can get the soft muzzle let her get used to it, for her it'll be a long ride.

I just picked two up that didn't look too overwhelming, first time I finally use them they will probably chew right through them!  When I get home tonight I'll post what brand but I just did an eeny meeny miny moe! lol. 

We haven't taken the ferry over with the dogs but we did go on our own one day (on a fluke) in our own boat with a small group.  I'm in a classic boat group too and we had a spontaneous Catalina run one saturday.  Family visitng from Utah and it was on his bucket list.  In case you haven't noticed, I'm always up for adventure and we had three boats so if anyone needed a tow we were covered!  PERFECT weather, we were very lucky and we got caught in a huge pod of Risso Dolphins (about 100 or so) TOTALLY AWESOME!!!  I took the dogs and a few of the kids over. 

I've heard Avalon is dog friendly but in my opionion it's not!  I think dogs are only allowed on the ferry because residents with pets need a way on and off the island?  And the compromise was the muzzle.  What I learned while I was there is that dogs are not allowed on the main pebbled street (however short it is), they are not allowed in the campgrounds, or up at the memorial?  With that said that doesn't leave really anyplace that I know of where you can take them?  There are a few dog friendly hotels and I see dogs on the boat all the time (I work right next to the main ferry dock in Long Beach) but sadly I have no idea where they are allowed? Can you tell my experience was less than fun!  Avalon is really small so there aren't too many restaurants?  IF you don't go peek season or during an event they may be a bit more flexible on the rules but don't hold me to that? You might be safe to check with the chamber of commerce for Catalina Island? 

If you do go and you aren't freaked out by cemetaries.  There is a pet cemetary that is very sweet.  Children have painted rocks for the pets year after year and their are some pretty impressive head stones.  We like to stop at cemetaries and read the headstones, picked this up during a visit back east.

I'll send the info on the muzzles when I get home.  If you do go with Enzo I'd love to hear about your trip. I'm still curous too?

Thanks J!  We may just make a trip over BEFORE our friends come and check out just how dog friendly the place is.  Don't want to ruin our friends trip.  Will keep you posted!

Great choice adjustable mesh muzzle, clearly for temporary use. My initial thoughts were Catalina until we went on it own.
