Oh Ken, I am so sorry to hear about Grady :( I really feel that people these days really do not care as much as in the past. There should be no reason to have glass there :( But I am happy to hear he has made a full recovery! I can only imagine how scared he was :(

Man it is busy at the moment…….. Just a very quick update. Grady is now about 50 pounds, doing great and having loads of fun. He loves swimming and spending time hiking etc. He is even starting to seem well trained …….. Or I am now well trained : - )

The bells for “ I need to go out” have been great, no trouble since the bell training.

Grady did have one very rough day more than a month ago. He was swimming and some one had broken a bottle in the water (we have the same teenage issues as everyone ) sliced four pads on his rear feet two on each. One bad enough to have to carry him over a mile on my back. He was pretty scared did not move an inch just stared at me for the full walk. They had to put him under at the vet and clean etc. I am thankful to say he has made a full recovery and is back to his 3 to 5 mile hikes. I will post a picture of his shoes that he now wears in the area the “teens” seem to hang . He had to wear the shoes for about 3 weeks or so while his wounds healed.

I hope to see picture from others and hope everyone is doing well! Have a great summer and hope to bump into Grady’s siblings some time.

Well Bear has come pretty accustomed to his new surroundings :) He really does not bark as much unless it is something that startles him or if someone is at our door :) I am so proud of him with his adaptation :)

CONGRATULATIONS Jack :) How exciting :) Bear is still getting use to our new surroundings but I really think he likes it because he is getting more attention than before :)

Hi everyone!

Glad to see all the "kids" are doing well. Charlie is just about 30 pounds now and half way through puppy class. So far, so good! He is finally sleeping through the night and is no longer suffering from separation anxiety when we goto work. YAY! I'm not used to getting dogs groomed and we need to get Charlie there soon. The hair is growing over his little eyes and I dont think he can see, LOL!

Jack, congrats on graduating! Hope everyone else is doing good.

Hey everyone

Great to see Jack is doing well! Graduation day is such a proud moment !

Grady is now 31 pounds as well. That was on Monday. With our large tick problem, we have him on both a tick collar and Frontline. He seems to loose the tick collar every so often when we are out hiking. I need to buy in bulk :- )

On the training front, Grady is doing well he has now learned to ring some bells when he needs to go to the potty. Very easy and really cool. Although he does need to pee and poop more than we thought … but he rings and out he goes. It took a while for him to realize it was not to go out and play, but he now gets it. If he rings the bell its out to his spot and back in.

I will upload some pictures and a movie of him ringing the bell.

First he was a little quiet on the ringing.

Then we got him to be a little more aggressive with the bells.

Hope everyone is well !!

Hi everyone... I just posted a picture of Georgia (previously known as "pink camo" from this past litter). Georgia's "mommy" should be joining the site and our group soon. It's so nice to get the siblings together for play dates. Hopefully something will work out for a Stoltzfus family pup reunion this summer!

Hey Jillian

In the pics of Charlie it looks like he has longer legs and maybe a little taller. He looks great! I think we would loose him in the snow :- )

As far as the nipping and jumping there are several things we are finding:

To start with I think they are like kids and this is how they explore the world. We have found Bully sticks give him something to get this chewing energy out of him.

1) your husband is just a big toy to Charlie :- )

2) he nips and jumps all over the kids and it has been more work, but they ask for it and expect it to stop when they say no…… it doesn’t - well until I get involved

3) I am with him almost all the time so he does listen to me the best and understands when my voice means it - doesn’t mean he 100 percent but more than 50 probably 75 percent.

4) this is the big one …… if I do not take him out back for his walk/run he is out of control! It is so funny it is like he lost his mind ….. That is of course if he has one:- )

5) We practice this and it works …….. He has to know stay first….

A) I do it with his food - I put it down and he is not allowed to eat until I say ok….. Then he will walk over and eat…….. Took time but he is 100 percent now, he actually looks at me for a sign or an OK

B)For visitors he has to stay at the top of the stairs he sits and stays…… he is not allowed to greet the visitor until the visitor or us say it is ok. Then the quest needs to slowly calmly say hello. There is no jumping allowed and we ignore him if he gets out of control, at all. Well mostly……..

6) He is still a puppy and we are trying to train the guest as well:- ) He is going to be to large for us to allow him to jump, so we are working very hard on this and its working pretty well. We have some friends tell us its ok so let him jump, but we do not want him to jump so we let Grady know what we wish him to do.

I hope this helps some. Its just what we are trying.
Walk Charlie as you can he sure looks Happy!

From Chocolate Charlie Talk to you soon!

Wow, Ken! Grady is just as big as Charlie! Charlie had his last round of shots at the vet on Tuesday night. He weighed in at 25 pounds! They are growing so, so fast. He will get neutered (spelling?) in about 6 weeks. The vet said it was almost time!

Sounds like Grady is doing well. I wish we had the land to give Charlie the exercise he so desperately needs. We live in a new housing plan and we do not have a fenced in yard that he can run around in. I know he has so much energy and we try to walk him as much as possible but he needs off-leash running and in this weather it just isnt possible. :(

We started puppy training classes last Sunday. It is an 8 week class. We have lots of homework and practicing to do but with our work schedules its hard to fit that all in. We are trying though!

Potty business has been great lately and we now wake him up to take him outside at night. We hear him get restless and know he needs to go, but it is getting closer and closer to the time we wake up so I assume it wont be long before we are all sleeping through the night.

The only problem we are having is Charlie's constant biting/nipping/mouthing. He does it to my husband more than me. Actually, he rarely does it to me. I think he sees my husband as a great big toy. We are trying to address this issue in puppy training but no luck so far. He is also way too excitable when guests come over... therefore scaring our guest with his excited jumping/nipping.

Anyone else going through this? Any tips on how to nix this issue? I know they are still young but the last thing I want is this to continue into his adult years!
