My first thought was that it was about melting snow and ice from the roads - must be this winter getting to me! Very cool idea! Smart roads!

I was wondering about this too. But a huge snowstorm would take time to melt, but that couldn't be any longer shutdown than currently happens with waiting and plowing.

I think if it started heating up as soon as the snow started falling it wouldn't take long because it would melt it gradually as it fell.

I know two people who have heated driveways and you are exactly right, F. Unless there's an out-and-out blizzard, the snow never accumulates much.

This is interesting!  I'm in So Utah and they are building solar farms anyway whats wrong with making them multipurpose instead of just taking up space.  If they can't make it tough enough for heavy loads like trucks, or if it would be too costly to make it tough enough for heavy loads then they can keep asphalt lane or two since already existing.
