A New Food Giveaway!

NOW...a question for Karen:  Let's say someone is interested in this contest but their doodle is on another food.  How would you recommend making the gradual switch...for purposes of trying something new?  New pup need 2 weeks on their old food before switching to a new food.  But what about adult dogs?

It's a complicated question, because it depends on several factors, including the type of formula the dog is currently eating, i.e. how similar or dissimilar is it in terms of ingredients, macronutrient percentages, grains versus no grains? Another factor would be if the dog is accustomed to eating different kinds of foods, as in a rotation diet, or if he's always eaten the same formula for years. Another factor would be simply how long he has been eating his current food. Another factor would be a dog whose digestive system is a bit sensitive versus those who can eat anything. 

And a food switch need not be gradual. It can happen cold turkey, It just depends.

This is very exciting. I do wish that they were offering a choice of lines, though. CORE is great, but we have a lot of dogs here with sensitive stomachs, mine included, who are eating the Wellness Simple Solutions line.

They wanted to promote their CORE line.  BUT I think anyone should enter because when it

comes down to it, I might be able to convince them to let a person with a sensitive dog have a diff formula.  They were almost going to do the Simple Solutions but I didn't think that was a good main promo because only a small percentage of dogs are going to need that so I didn't think we needed to market that direction.  I wanted something that was made for the average dog to get more people excited.  I'll talk to my contact later about the possibility of SS for someone who wins but has a doodle with a sensitive stomach.

A dog doesn't have to have a sensitive stomach to eat and do well on the Simple Solutions line, lol. It would work for both dogs with sensitive stomachs and dogs with normal digestive systems. :)

Right, I understand any dog can eat SS.  What I mean is that since it is made for a particular need then it won't be the dog food most dog owners are likely to gravitate toward.  I wanted the dog food to be both a quality food and a 'made for any dog' kind of food.

So...does the wellness line of treats as a whole have easy substitutions for the canned food and treats (for dogs with sensitive GIs)?

I'm not sure what you mean. Simple Solutions does have a canned food. I haven't really looked into what's available in their treat line, but every dog with a sensitive stomach is different in terms of what ingredients and protein sources they can have.

These give aways are fun and the prizes are great. I love that it works with the FG and educates on healthy food. For a future idea it would be fun to link a give away to the training group to educate on DKs devotion to good training practices. Prize links could be collars and leashes or something similar?

How exciting! My puppy (12 weeks now) is on Wellness Core Puppy and doing very well with it.

Karen, would most of the members be able to use the core kibble as treats? My girls are on Orijen and I'm not interested in changing, but I may be able to use the pieces of kibble as treats? Or just have it sent to someone who DOES use the kibble mentioned, if I were to win specifically.

Sure, the Core kibble would work as treats for any dog on Orijen. That's a good idea. You could freeze it in individual treat baggies. :)

I'm pretty sure that nobody who is feeding Orijen is going to be interested in changing. :)

Tara uses different types of kibble for treats. I haven't tried the Wellness line BUT my cat eats Wellness and ONLY Wellness so it must taste good!  Tara would like to try it too!
