Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have 2 doodles that are opposites. Josie is 5 years old, she is 3/4 retriever, 1/4 poodle who is very relaxed, calm and was gaining weight. She got up to 57 lbs and so the vet recommended she lose some weight. So about 2 years ago I started her on the Acana light and fit, and she is now down to 52 lbs and more energetic, she still needs to lose probably about 7 more lbs. In the past if I changed her food to anything else she started to gain weight, so I want to keep her on the light and fit.
In comes my 2 year old Piper. She is a whoodle, 1/2 Wheaton terrier with a poodle, who is very hyper, energetic, high energy. I've had her on the light and fit too, to make things easier with one dog food. They've been getting more exercise this summer and Piper has lost 6 lbs from June to August even with me giving her a little more then the recommended amount of food. The vet assistant said that she shouldn't lose any more so I've increased her to 2 cups a day, but I think she's lost even more weight. I think I need to change her to a different type of Acana, but not sure which one. I just bought a small bag of the free run duck line to try as that was the only small bag my local store had in stock, and she likes it, but not sure if she should have something with a higher fat content. We had tried the pork and squash about a year ago, and she didn't like that flavour at all.
Just wondering if any one has any suggestions what I should change her too or to look for.

The foods you're choosing are the lower fat formulas in Acana's line. All of the Singles formulas are lower fat, and of course the Light N Fit is well, light, lol. The Heritage line has a formula called Sport & Agility which is higher in fat and calories, or you could go with one of the Regionals formulas, which are the highest in calories. I would definitely not feed them the same formula.

I was thinking about the sport and agility, but I didn't know if that would be too much for her? Would that be more for a working dog or should it be ok for a hyper Piper? Lol,

It's just a higher calorie, high fat food for dogs who need more calories, regardless of the reason. Maybe they are more active, as in working and agility dogs, or maybe just because they have a higher metabolism. It should be fine for Piper. But the Regionals formulas actually have more calories per cup than the Sport & Agility, with less fat, so that may be your best bet.

Thank you so much, I will try the regionals for her.
