Hi all! I'm new and have been working my way through all of the posts, including the recommended foods one. I didn't see Acana's Heritage Freshwater Fish on there and I'm wondering why it's not recommended. That's what we are currently feeding and I am willing to switch if we need to, but I would love to know :)

Thanks!

I don't think that list is necessarily exhaustive but a starting point. Acana products are fantastic! IMO they are among the top 3 foods for the money. Even though they aren't cheap for kibble, it's much more affordable than freeze-dried raw and other premium non-kibble foods.

The kibble may be new, and ot listed yet, since Acana opened a plant in Kentucky. Acana products are great.

Any formula made by any brand on the Recommended Brands list is fine. Keeping track of every new formula in every line for every brand and then updating the list is a big job and I've neglected to do that since Champion opened the KY plant and changed the formulas. That's the only reason your formula isn;t on the list.

Thanks everyone! Good to know that all of their foods are approved :)

I have been feeding my doodles Acanna for years ,,but I have noticed in the last couple months there more hungry than before,,,and there pooping way more than previous,,,I never minded the price, because it was from Canada,,, but to charge the same and not have the same Quality ,,is nuts! Any recommendations on another that's just as good ! Thanks. Kathy

Can I ask you which Acana do you feed your dogs? I am feeding them Pacifica and was wondering if I should pay more attention.

USA can no longer get Pacifica...we can only by from Kentucky plant. There are a couple of options for fish, one is mostly trout the other I believe a Mackerel (I think it's called Atlantic). My Daisy did not like.

Yes, I'd be interested to know which formula you're feeding too. All of them have changed. Pacifica is now Wild Atlantic, for example. You can compare the ingredients, calories and nutritional profiles of the old formula with the new one by looking at the old one on the Canadian Acana website and the new version on the U.S. website.

Let's not forget that the bags are now 25lbs, when we started using Acana they were 29. something lbs. And no, the food is not less expensive. When they stopped selling Canadian options I was going to try the Kentucky options but they no longer have a Salmon option like the Pacifica.
I have switched to Zignature....her poops are bigger, ha ha.

I didn't really do a scientific comparison but the Acana bags sure do seem to last a significantly shorter time :-(
