Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
My doodle will be 2 in April, and I've been feeding him Orijen for over a year now that I have purchased from our groomer. We've been very pleased with Orijen, but as a result of difficulties dealing with her distributor, our groomer is no longer going to carry the Orijen brand and is replacing that product line with Adirondack. I don't know anything about this company, and was wondering if anyone is using this brand now and how it might compare to Orijen (quality/cost/etc). Thanks for any advice offered; I am attaching the link to the Adirondack website. http://www.adirondackpetfood.com

Adirondack is a private label food that was previously called Blackwood pet food. They do not make a grain-free formula, and all of their formulas are very, very grain heavy. Lots of fillers, much lower in calories than Orijen too, which means you have to feed a lot more. Nothing at all like Orijen in any way, shape or form, and nowhere near as good. The quality of the ingredients and the nutritional profile aren't even close. It's also almost impossible to get any information about the company itself.
It would be a huge mistake to switch a dog who has been doing well on a high-protein, grain-free food to a low protein, grain-heavy food, let alone one that's from a questionable source. I'd find another place to buy Orijen and use the groomer for grooming, not for food. :)
Thank you!
Do you need to buy from your groomer? If you go to Orijens website, you can type in your location and the nearest stores that carry the food will come up. It is also available online through many different pet food stores.
Im not an expert at looking at foods, but just by glancing at Adirondacks website, and the food ingredients, I am not too impressed. It is a lot of "pork meal, chicken meal, rice, etc" And if you are feeding a grain free food with Orijen…it seems that all of the Adirondack line has grains. Also, it says made in the USA, which sounds nice..but where is the sourcing of all the ingredients?
Hope this helps!
Thank you!
Thank you!
Thank you very much for those insightful replies; that is exactly the information I needed to know!! I'll check out doggiefood.com and see if I can get Orijen sent to my home. May you all have a blessed new year.
A lot of us use Chewy.com too. Great customer service!
Perfect; thank you!
Hi Loriann ~ if your doodle is doing well on Orijen, try ordering from Chewy.com. If you set up autoship, it is even somewhat cheaper. They have wonderful customer service. If you find yourself running low before the shipment, you can change your shipment to be shipped immediately. I just love it.
