Ever since chloe had surgery a few months ago to remove an obstruction in her stomach we've had to stick with canned foods as dry foods seem to cause diarrhea.  We've taken her to vet a number of times to check for giardia along with parasites and they were always negative.  For the first year she was on nutro dry kibble until her surgery.  Afterwards she was on canned foods.  I waited a week before easing her back onto dry foods.  2-3 days later her diarrhea would start again so after a vet checkup we went back to canned foods and her stools went back to normal.  I waited another week again to try to switch and sure enough 2-3 days later diarrhea again.  The second time I switched to natural balance since many seemed to advise against nutro brand.  Anyways we've stuck to canned food (wellness brand) for 2 weeks now without any issues.  A canned diet can be quite expensive but aside from that are there any other drawbacks?  Is anyone else on a pure canned diet with any insight/experiences to share?

There are some people who believe that a canned diet is healthier than kibble. I don't know of any problem with feeding strictly canned foods. It used to be thought that kibble helped keep their teeth cleaner, but we now know that isn't true.

However, a grain-free kibble might work better than the ones you've tried before, if you want to give it a try.

If it is working using "Wellness" can food, why not try "wellness" kibbles? They do make grain free ones "Core", too.
My Molly had horrible loose stools, we switched her to Wellness Kibble with a Welness wet food on top (as a treat), she's doing Awesome on that diet!

There is no problem with the canned diet.

I agree you might want to try grain free kibble mixed in if yoiu have not tried that before.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I slowly transitioned her over to Blue Buffalo Wilderness grain-free food since it is readily available at petsmart and it looks like it went well.  Her stools have been nice and firm for the past few weeks.  I was afraid the recommended smaller serving size might be a problem but she actually appears to be back at her original pre-surgery weight.
Glad to hear it's going well! Please keep us posted!
ugh, I must have completely jinxed it.  Her last 2 poops have been loose all of the sudden :(  It's not diarrhea but it is loose  or at least the last half of it is loose.  Maybe something else she ate?  I just gave her some small training treats a few days ago but I didn't think they would have that much affect.  I haven't given her anymore after her first loose stool yesterday.  Should I just stick with this diet and see if it passes or go back to square one which was canned food?
Give it another few days.  This happens every now and then with my two. Sometimes they eat something outside and you don't even know it!  My opinion is that you hold course for now and keep us posted.
Looks like I'm back to square one.  She had a solid poop after her previous 2 loose stools but then last night she woke me up at 3 a.m. needing to go bad.  I knew what it meant...diarrhea and then again this morning around 5 a.m.  It's so disappointing.  I thought this was all over :(
