NOW is one of the lines made by Petcurean; Petcurean is the brand, and it's on our recommended list.
There are many dogs who will gobble up any new food and seem very enthusiastic about it...for awhile. But soon enough the novelty wears off and the dog goes back to the same way she was with the old food. For this type of dog, a rotation diet is best; you rotate formulas within the same line of food, a different one with each new bag. So this bag, it might be duck and the next bag it might be lamb, etc.
In order to determine whether Sparty is getting enough to eat, I need to know her weight, the exact formula of NOW you are feeding, and how much you're giving her per day. In order to determine if this food is "less substantial" (I'm guessing you mean lower in calories? Lower in protein?) we need to know which exact canidae formula you were feeding.
Hmm, I'm not seeing a puppy formula on Canidae's website, other than large breed puppy formulas. Their chicken meal and rice formula has 449 calories per cup. The NOW formula you're feeding does have considerably fewer calories, 378/cup, and the recommended feeding amount for an active dog weighing 20-30 lbs is 1 and 2/3 to 1 and 3/4 cups per day, so she should definitely be getting more than a cup and a half.
Within the NOW line that you're feeding, there are 3 formulas you could rotate: the one you're using, the fish formula, and the red meat formula. I'd wait until she shows signs of being less interested in her food, and then try one of the other formulas.
Our two were pretty pickie eaters and I would cook up chicken to add to their kibble to get them to eat. I discovered GO! (chicken, turkey, trout recipe) made by Petcurean that they LOVE. They have been eating GO! without me having to add chicken since last November. I like that GO! is 34% protein. I buy their food from Petflow and Chewy.com because our local pet stores don't carry GO!.
