my dogs were on canidae lamb and rice dog food prior to being switched to beneful brand.  But canidae was hard to find then.          Would canidae (any brand) be a good food to switch a dog, with pancreatitis to?     certain canidae foods come in 35 lb bags like lifestages (mixed meat)  and  lamb and rice.    Would life stages be ok for pancreatitis?             thanks again for your help. :)

rosco is still at vets and is receiving iv fluids and antibiotics to treat him for pancreatitis but treatment only started at 9pm last night. vet said this afternoon that there is still no improvement but he did not vomit so they tried a sm amount of food this morning but he just dumped his bowl and ate none of it. He has not eaten since friday morning. but vomited that all up.     he ate saturday breakfast but vomited all that up as well.    so really no food since thursday dinner.         We will get update tomorrow from vet again.   if stll no improvement by wednesday, it probally is cancer and we will have to put him down.

I am so sorry to hear about Rosco.  We lost a dog recently to cancer so I can really empathize with your feelings.
Poor Rosco - I hope the news tomorrow is better :(

Karen, I think you should wait to make a decision about food until you get a definite diagnosis on Rosco. The vet may want him on a special diet while he is recovering from pancreatitis, if that's what it turns out to be.

And if it isn't pancreatitis, I would not lose hope. Even if it is cancer, there can still be some excellent treatment options. It depends what form of cancer it is and what stage it's in.

I think by "life stages" you are referring to the Canidae ALS (ALL Life Stages) formulas. That would be fine as long as the vet says he can resume eating a normal diet. There are several different Canidae formulas, and the fat content varies slightly from one to another. The lamb and rice formula and the beef and fish formula seem to be slightly lower in fat than some of the others. But let's wait and see and if the vet feels Rosco should be on a lower fat food.

Keeping our fingers and paws crossed for him!

Good advice.

So sorry to hear about Rosco.  I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that he has cancer too quickly.  You may want to get a second opinion.  I'll send him some healing thoughts.  I hope he feels better in the morning!

My Beamer had a bad bout with pancreatitis. I thought I was going to lose him. My vet suspected cancer too, but it was not. Beamer was eating BillJax at the time he got so sick.  I now feed him Sweet potato and Duck Natural Balance. He is very healthy. He gets a few treats a day which are pieces of his dog food. I have to be very careful not to let him get any people food, greasy food, etc.
I hope Rosco gets better asap!  Don't even think about putting him down until you really know what is going on.  And he could turn around at any minute.  Keep the faith!  Keep us posted.
