Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I was walking through Petco today. The doodles and I had our first real walk in days since the heat wave broke. We always go through Petco on this particular walk to see what's new. It occurred to me that should I get stuck somewhere with the dogs and no food I don't know what I'd buy in a pinch. What recommendations are there for foods on the fly. Both for times when a big box pet store is on hand or when only a supermarket is available. I know I could probably buy some cooked chicken to save the day too. My two usually eat grain free Acana. Too much thinking I know and I never was a boy scout : )

This is a good subject. I'm going to have to think about it.
Thanks Karen.
I ran into a bit of a snag a few weeks ago. I was at the cottage and running low on our food. I have a pet store nearby that carries TOTW which I have used in a pinch, but when I walked by, they were SELLING PUPPIES!!! Moral dilema or what? I did not go in. Instead I asked my cousin who was coming to visit in a week to bring a bag from our usual store up with him. I rationed out the food into five equal parts and shored it up with rice and lean ground beef and sweet potato.
There you go. Innovation.
Bless you for not patronizing a store that sells puppies, even though it created a major inconvenience.
Ya'll taught me well ;)
I've forgotten where your cottage is!! Are you on Georgian Bay? There is a PJs pet store in Orillia that has a pretty good selection of dog food. We usually buy our Acana from a great little store in Craighurst (on Penetenguishine Road just off the 400) called the Whistle Stop Pet Shop. They have areally good selection and the lady that runs it is lovely!!
Yes Georgian Bay, but the other side. 25 minutes north of Wiarton, 45 minutes north of Owen Sound. I found a very lovely Pet Valu in Owen Sound that sells GO!
TOTW isn't at big box stores where I live but Wellness and Solid Gold are. We have an RV that we try to keep a bag of kibble in.
I stopped by Pet People the other day and found out they are no longer going to carry TOTW. Their excuses were lame, one of which was the recent recall which did not affect California. Before I could catch myself, I blurted out "then you may have to out of business because many of the brands you carry have had recalls!" Thankfully, she did not get upset. But, it did raise a similar question in my mind. WTD if no one will carry the food Camus is eating? Do I run around and stock up on what is available now? So, I will be following this discussion to see what folks say about emergency rations. A great post.
I've just discovered ordering on line for home delivery and LOVE IT! We are currently feeding FROMM and the closest place to me that carries it is about 40 miles. There are many sites to order from, I just happened to find the best price the day I ordered from MrChewy.com and it was delivered within 2-3 days and shipping was free over $49 order.
I order on line too from doggiefood.com. It is much easier for me and I had to special order before, anyhow. I do keep several months of food on hand at home.
