Feed Two or Three Times Per Day?

Hi All,

I picked up Ember yesterday and she is settling in pretty well.  The breeder recommended feeding Ember 2x per day. Ember is 9 weeks and a couple days old, eating Premium Edge. Per the bag, she should be eating around 2 cups per day. Today was her first full day with me and I tried the 2x per day feeding. She only ate about 1.5 cups (morning & evening feeding combined). I'm not sure if she is still feeling a bit stressed (her stools are soft, also, but better than yesterday). 

 

She's getting some tiny treats (zuke's minis) throughout the day, but I don't think I'm going overboard on them at all. 

 

Thoughts and guidance would be very helpful! I had always thought puppies should eat 3x per day... but maybe this isn't accurate though.

I fed my puppies 3x a day. You can adjust the amounts depending on how she eats.  The bag is only a guide.  At first she may not eat it all, she's adjusting to her new home.  At some point she will start to chow down.  Then after awhile (6 months?) she will be less interested in the noon meal and you can change to 2x daily. BTW, I am in Maple Valley, so we are neighbors (sort of).  Cute red head.  My hubby wanted a red dood and we ended up with 2 white ones....Good luck this week.  There is a lot of good info in Puppy Madness and The Grooming Group too....

She should be fed more often; at least three times a day. And I wouldn't give her anything except what she was eating at the breeder's for at least two weeks; lots of doodle puppies come home with parasites, and if she gets loose stools, you won't know what's causing it if you change her diet too soon.

Okay, I'll go to three times a day. 

I am feeding the same things the breeder was, including treats. (The breeder sent me home with both the food and treats). We're headed to the vet tomorrow and will ask about the stools. Makes me so nervous!! I see that they are getting firmer, but nervous about parasites, etc.

well I can not eat only twice a day or I would be a wumpus cat:)..so this is what I do.. Lilly eats at 6am I put down the food and what she doesn't eat in 20 min. I pick up..usually she is done in 10 minutes. then at 11 ish, she gets a kong with a treat crumbled up with dog food and a dab of peanut butter on the rim.  the knog is frozen, but the food isn't.  at 2/ 3 ish she gets another kong thing.. and then dinner at 6ish.  I am lucky to stay home and this works for Lilly at 12 1/2 wks.

Ember is adorable! She's the same color as Murphy but curlier. Anyway I agree that 3 times a day is best until around 6 months. After that twice a day is good. Have fun with that little cutie. They grow up FAST!
