Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello all! My doodle currently eats Zignature Trout and Salmon grain free after trying Orijen for many months and him being constipated from it. He has done great on Zignature now for almost 3 yrs but my vet and many breeders I follow are now warning against grain free diets (especially those high in potatoes and legumes) because of the effects on the heart. Is this something I need to be worried about?

I share your opinion. Nestle has way too large a market share as it is.

They are way too large. It's scary.

Excellent, excellent interview with Marion Nestle, which is very pertinent to this discussion. Feel free to share. A great easy to understand discussion about why bigger is NOT better when it comes to food manufacturing companies. Which is the opposite of what the diet-related DCM people would like you believe:

Thanks, and I did share....

Here is what Jasper's sire's owner/breeder/handler posted about this issue:

"My last comments on a subject that people are being given incorrect information about. So I'm done beating my head against a wall.
222 DOGS OUT OF THE 68.2 MILLION reported companion dogs in the USA alone. The percentage is .0000000326% of the population that may be affected with DCM supposedly related to food.
Next point. From the current release of FDA report and complaints. THERE HAS BEEN NO LINK FOUND BY THE FDA AND ITS RESEARCHERS BETWEEN THE FOOD AND THESE CASES. THERE HAS BEEN NO TAURINE LEVEL ISSUES FOUND IN THESE FOODS, they were found to be the same as grain diets. THEY HAVE RESEARCHED THE POSSIBILITIES OF LEGUMES AND LENTILS CAUSING THE ISSUE AND THAT AS WELL HAS SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN FRUITLESS. Is the research complete? No, they continue to investigate and I am open to all research and its results and conclusions.
People are saying feed proplan, SD, & Royal canin but all of these foods are listed in the complaints as well. Please, I beg people to read the full article and complaints(which are all over the board) and then make an educated decision. Not a decision based off a chart the FDA was forced to post by the mob of consumers. A chart that was taken out of context by the media. FYI- I personally do not feed any foods on this hit "list" so that is not why I am posting this. I am a scientist, a chemist, a vet tech, and a multiple dog owner. I believe in research and SCIENTIFIC fact. Shouldn't you?"
