Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So we've been feeding Cooper Grandma Lucy's All Natural dog food since we got him at 8.5 weeks of age. It's a grain free, all stages formula.

I posted a discussion regarding his weight a couple weeks ago over at: http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/puppy-weight-concerns-6-po...

He is 9lbs as of April 23rd, (he will be 15 weeks old tomorrow) and I will be weighing him again tonight at puppy class. (Also, he's a mini F1B Goldendoodle). (EDIT weight on April 30th 9.9lbs)

My question is if anyone has any experience with this dog food and if it is something we should continue feeding Cooper. We have been feeding him 1 1/4 cups per day, twice daily as that's what our schedule allows.

Here is the Analysis from their website: http://www.grandmalucys.com/artisan_chicken_p/73001-8.htm

Crude Protein (min): 26%
Crude Fat (max): 12%
Crude Fiber (max): 6%
Moisture (max): 7.5%
Calcium (min): 1%
Phosphorus (max): 0.44%
Magnesium (max): 0.16%
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lucas

I have no experience with this food. I don't see anything wrong with it, the calorie content is adequate and you seem to be feeding the right amount. So I'm not sure what your concern is. Does your pup have any digestive issues? Stools well-formed? Generally, if the food is good quality, the puppy likes the food and doesn't have any digestive issues with it, it's best not to fix what isn't broken.

Regarding his weight, your vet is the best person to assess his body condition. With mixed breed puppies, it is very difficult to know what any given puppy "should" weigh. But your vet can tell if he has the appropriate amount of muscle mass and if he is too lean for his age and skeletal structure. Just don;t ask the vet about food or allow him/her to talk you into an Rx food.

Okay, thanks for the input. Yes, stool is well formed and he loves it. I've noticed other puppy formulas have a higher protein percentage. Any potential issues here with this one?

Personally, I do like to see a higher protein percentage, but you generally don't find that in the dehydrated foods. Some of our members who feed Honest Kitchen and Sojo's, which are similar, add their own cooked chicken, turkey, or other protein foods to boost the protein levels in their dog's diets.
